Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I have been a long time admirer of the greatness that is Vehicross. Finally I was able to pick up a silver 1999 model. I am in the Dallas area and look forward to getting together with the local contingent. Also just 1 question, the Vehicross I bought has several little issues I would like looked at. Who would be the foremost expert to work on them in this area? The check engine light is on, ABS light is on, Blows fuse for dash lights and tail lights the moment you put it in, windows on both sides messed up(I tried the lithium grease to no avail), and just want all the diff and tranny fluid and filters changed. Anyway look forward to meeting all of you and getting into the club.
Thanks
Brian

Not sure who is the best there but DO NOT go to the local Isuzu dealer downtown. They are not qualified and refused to do warranty work for warranty reimbursement. One of the local branch of which there are a few should be able to help you on who is good.

Welcome and congrats. Sounds like you have yourself a little work ahead. Lucky for you, none of it sounds like anything new. Should be able to find all of your solutions here and there are plenty of folks in TX on board that should be able to assist. :)

Welcome to the addiction. Window's if it is the typical tilting issue is a easy fix with SBC's (He's a member) new brackets. For CEL, stop by a auto parts store and have them plug in their scanner to the OBDII plug located by the hood release, that will give you a clue. ABS, well, welcome to the club. There are many members in the DFW area to help out:happyface

I can probably help you with the blowing fuse + no tail + dash lights. Check the wiring harness in the engine compartment directly behind and below your driver side headlight. Rubbing against a metal bracket over time caused wires to fray and ground out, blowing fuses.

Hmmm, this gives a whole new definition to the term cross-threaded (http://www.vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?t=18495)!

ABS light could mean a number of things.. ABS hydraulic module, sensors, or both for starts. But my question would be do you really need to fix it. MANY of us have never fixed our ABS.. some have even pulled the fuse for it. IMHO, you can brake faster with more control without it.

Take your VX to an autozone and have them get the codes. This will give you the information to diagnose the check engine light and perhaps the abs.
Doesnt cost much to do.

What?! No love for the bungee cord fix?

For fifty cents your windows will jump up like they were new. And you never have to lube!

LOL! Somehow I missed that one. One would need to know where to buy a bungee cord. I need a complete, detailed write-up please.

Any other Ideas about windows ...? Thanks alot guys

I compiled a list of the pertinent threads on repairing the windows....
Here's a TON of threads that have good info on the issue and how to repair. As time went on, most found that buying the SBC metal brackets for $65 was the best fix. It's what about 30 + of us VX owners have done with success.

The VX I bought has the brackets on both windows already and they work great. The passenger side is a little slow, but I would blame that on an old or getting old motor more than anything else.

Anita, you buy your bungee cords the same place you buy the duct tape. :bgwb:

This "temporary" bungee cord and duct tape fix was done right after I acquired the VX in 2004 as a way to keep the window situation from deteriorating further while I found a more permanent solution. The car had just been turned in after a 3 year lease when I bought it and the drivers window was dragging badly - and the passengers side was staring to drag too. Not counting trim removal/replacement, it took about 15 minutes for the first window because I had to experiment a bit to get the bungee length just right - then it literally took about 45 seconds to do the other one. Hook a bungee in two holes, put a piece of duct tape over each hook to keep it from dislodging when the bungee is slack, and yer done! Well... you know how temporary fixes go sometimes.... a month passed... then two... then a year... then two... and after a while I decided what the heck - I think I'll promote that fix to permanent status! It's been working just fine for over six years now with none of that yearly track lubing stuff.

Yeah yeah yeah Bob - you can make fun of my lowly bungee cord and duct tape fix all you want - but next time you have to lube your loose, kapakahi windows with their spread out tracks and butchered up rubber - you'll find yourself secretly thinking: "I sure wish I'd done the bungee.... they say once you've done the bungee you'll never go back... nobody would have to know... as long as I don't go back in the house smelling like duct tape my wife will never find out..." :bgwb:
