OK folks, Cece hasn't replaced her Proton with anything yet. Driving my Ebony while I walk to work... in the rain, uphill (both ways)! :bwgy:
Here's your chance to make suggestions. Figure $25,000ish max MSRP price, good (unique, odd, love it/hate it) looks, and good gas mileage. She has a couple of vehicles in mind (and I agree with her), but I wanted to see what the VX Family collective could come up with.
Have fun, and thanks!

New only... wants a warranty. 4 or 5 doors preferred. AWD a plus. I didn't want to influence ideas, but a good warranty, practicality, economy, and 4-season safety are the major factors.

Are we considering new AND used? The used market significantly increases the options.

You are right. The "Certified Used" market is an option as long as the vehicles have less than 15k miles per year on the odo. You would be amazed at how many 1 or 2 year old cars have nearly the same mileage as my VX.

We both love the RX-8, but the MSRP is not $24k, but $32k. Again... maybe if we lived in a warmer part of America. I told her that she could drive my VX in the Winter if she was nervous driving whatever she ends up getting. I drove a Fiero for many years.

Perhaps not the most exotic idea, but I am pretty happy with my V6 RAV4. 269 hp, and gets 26-30 mpg highway. And she really goes when you step in it, I have occasionally engaged in some freeway on-ramp races :bgwb: Definitely not an off-roader, but the AWD really works in the snow. Tows 3500 pounds if you are so inclined.
Ummm, did you even look at my link?
I think the Brat was ahead of its time. Kinda like the VX, part of its appeal is in its uniqueness... now comparing the Brat to the Aztec is hitting below the belt.... the Aztec was FUGLY, but to each his own.
Ummm, did you even look at my link?Of course he looked at your link... "not a big fan of the styling" speaks volumes when you simply mention the Baja! I am not at all surprised you like that car whereas I have a knee-jerk reaction to it that involves vomit.

Speaking of the WRX, the 2011 is rolling out starting next month and it's styling has changed. Widebody is back on it and it is based at 265hp, and of course, AWD standard. Right up your alley and is a good fit next to a VX.

I am waiting until mid-September to buy, so I can have a look at it and take it for a test drive to see if I like it...

Now I could afford one of these! I test drove it already and it was nice. 10yr/100k mi powertrain warranty is really appealing too. I would have to get used to being in a CAR again. I like sitting up high...I feel safer. But, if I could make it like its rally driving counterpart...hmmmmmm?

All I'm sayin is that I've had pretty good luck with the Eclipse. I usta have a 93 & still miss it. I'm still driving an 03 & wifey has an 04. The 92 3000GT (daughter's car) is still sitting in the driveway not running (it was a used car that had a lot of hidden abuse). I usually put about 200K miles on them before they retire.
On the other hand, the 93 Toyota Land Cruiser is still running strong.
I haven't owned my very first Ford product (RV) long enough to form any judgements concerning longevity but it seems to be a nice vehicle so far.
I usta be a die hard Mopar fan but that was years ago.
I really don't have a true loyalty to any one company. I just buy what feels right.
Of course, the current Isuzu I own is the the best EVER!!!!

You know the VX and Juke really are similar, as the chart shows they have almost identical dimensions (though the Juke was clearly designed with backseat passengers in mind). The other thing is styling philosophy. If you look at pictures of both the Juke and VX, I think most people would agree that the side and rear profiles of the vehicles are pretty handsome. But in both cases it's really the front grill/headlights/bumper that are the most polarizing. In my case I like the VX front, but don't really care for the Juke's.

Was just talking about this with the wife last night... she almost bought one when we were first dating, before my Dad (who's a service writer at a garage) showed us all the maintenance problems shops were encountering (blown engines the most notorious). Look at it this way, if rotary technology was reliable, why wouldn't more manufacturers use it? (1) car out of the hundreds of models produced each year uses it. The reason Mazda can get away with it is that it's what has always made the RX unique.

Well for the 2004-09 models I would not trust the engine past 80k. I took perfect care of mine and the engine went out at 68,000 miles. The 2010 like the one pictured have added another oil injector to fix the current apex seal problem. Now just a simple upgrade on the apex seals from a known company and you could have a very reliable engine, but not the 04-09 ones :( I just sold my RX-8 yesterday actually. Power to weight ratio, and power to size ratio is amazing with the rotaries that is why the LeMans series outlawed them after they won the 24 hours in superb fashion. When built correctly (not mass market) they are incredible engines and are SO EASY to rebuild with only 2 moving parts, but if you are not mechanically inclinded or a "car person" I would pass on the RX's.

Ahhh that's why there's $8K in depreciation between '09 and '10 RX-8's.

I feel somewhat validated... someone else see the potential in the Juke... ;)

"ya, im dissapointed that my VX fam seems to like this car....i dont understand it... or see any resemblence to the VX..."
Not every member of the VX fam goes hardcore wheelin'... therefore, priorities over-rule.
There is a strange connection to the VX... the headlight/ running light combo of the Juke looks as if the VX has gone through some updates and built on the "horns"
Even I don't normally like the look of 4-dr vehicles, but the Juke's rear handles are up high in the windows and you don't notice them at first glance.
Willing to bet if the VX's were still in production, they would look nothing like our existing body styles.... And I'm sure they would get better MPG by now... ;)

I don't think the Juke is even close in resemblance to a VX, not that it's a bad car or anything but I don't think it looks anything like a VX. The closest thing I've seen was the Hyundai Sante Fe. The Juke is an interesting ride for sure, but not my style

If you don't mind buying used, put a Subaru dealer out with some feelers for a used Forester XT Sport. !@#$ing mean machines with room to boot and stellar AWD capabilities. I was on the hunt for one used a couple years ago and they are out there, in the range of $15k-$24k (hold value well) and well taken care of from what I saw. Ended up getting my STi hatch of course, heh.

My mom recently picked up a N/A turbo 2010 Forester, very plain and auto, but new for $19k. She had bought it just before our big snows here and it was excellent. No turbo but that thing is still right damned peppy.

I sound like I am on Subaru's payroll. :o I just trust the hell out of mine and they have been very reliable to me. And the mod and aftermarket world is ENDLESS on these things. :yesy:

For around 23k, I have a fully loaded, Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback GTS! Heated black leather seats, auto (CVT w/paddle shifters), Rockford Fosgate sound, power sunroof, and getting around 28mpg to boot! 5yr/60,000 mile bumper to bumper, 5yr/unlimited mile roadside assistance and a 10 yr./100k mile drivetrain/powertrain! Yippy!

Actually, I don't think the Lancer CVT is AWD. Only the GTS, Ralliart, and EVO, IIRC. Correct me if I am wrong Cece. I don't feel like researching it, heh.
Bart, I resemble that remark. It's not the busted arse grill I care about, it's the rear. ;)

Her Lancer is the GTS Sportback that is FWD not AWD... The Ralliart model was $8000 more, and it didn't come with leather!?! We already have a list of mods in mind... I have to get her the Ralliart hood, and the rims off the Eclipse Spyder. :drool2:

Me too! Lovin' my new ride more and more everyday. I already gave her a talkin' to. "DON"T SCREW UP!" I wanted a manual, but through many people saying how much it would suck to have stick in the city and the lack of fully loaded manuals, I decided "Meh... I got a 10yr./100k mile warranty, I'll take the auto!" Plus...It's got paddle-shifters! :bgwb:

Paddle shifters..... I want paddle shifters!
