First off, I just need to extend a HUGE THANKS to VXKat. She was instrumental in making this happen for me smoothly. Thanks, Sue. VX.info ROCKS!
This all started a couple weeks ago. I was sitting at work, bored, as per usual, and like an idiot, I was cruising Craigslist for "Isuzu". As it happened, this POS popped up.
http://www.nofuture.com/lj/2010/08-10-10/00.jpg
I thought to myself, "you know, I've never driven an Isuzu car, so what the heck, I'll go take a test ride."
This poor 89 Impulse was BEAT. Whoever owned it prior did some HORRID things to it. It had a lot of problems, both mechanical and cosmetic. Despite this, the car was really quite a treat to drive, and I was immediately hooked with the the Impulse bug. I now wanted one. So, natually, I joined Isuzone.org to get more info on the (JR) Impulse. After a few rounds on my thread, I got a PM from a guy named John down in Arizona who claimed to have a 1987 Special Edition RS Turbo Impulse he was thinking of selling. We went back and forth for a couple weeks, and the rest is history.
I contacted VXKat and she kindly agreed to take a look at the car for me and facillitate delivering payment. This way, I had a trustworthy 3rd party opinion to help me.
The deal was done and I took delivery of the car yesterday. She is in amazing condition for her age. The interior is damn near spotless, and everything works. She needs new tires and an alignment, as well as a little TLC here and there, but all is great with the car. Only 55,000 original miles!! Crazy.

I'm sure some of you will immediately wonder what happened to the Falcon. Well, nothing yet, but she is on the chopping block. In a nut shell, I decided the Falcon restoration is much more than I want to handle. The restoration of this car will likely cost me $40,000+ and several years of my life. I came to this realization a while back, and I have been trying to sell it for the last 5 months or so. I'm going to loose my arse on the deal, but we all make mistakes. Someday, I may buy another one, in much better condition. But for now, I am going to bask in full Isuzu geekdom with my Trio of Zus.

Its actually an 87, and it only has 55,000 miles!!!
Do you really like the 2nd gen Impulses? I've looked at them and looked at them and for the life of me I just can't bring myself to like em...but I think that comes from me not liking much from the 90s. :p
Right the F#@k on man! Is the turbo in good shape?
AFAIK, yeah, it's functioning great. This is my first vehicle with a turbo, so I have a lot to learn about how they work and how to maintain them. Feel free to school me with whatever you know!

Yeah, I suppose so. I think it was destiny.
If it ain't black ... or tan ... or white ... he ain't driving it:)
 I just KNEW someone was going to make a comment like that. :D Honestly, I REALLY wanted a black 89 with a sun roof, but when this one became available, I just knew it was the one. There are so few of these for sale nowadays, and most of the ones out there are riced out and hacked up. So this was a choice opportunity. I had to pull the trigger. And I must say, the white looks good. I love the retro rims.

I remember you posting that one before, always fun to watch.
And if I'm not mistaken, that's how square dancing got it's start.
DUDE! You must be getting older quicker than I thought. From black to tan to white in just 2 years - I know we joked about it before but seriously man 'he who dies with the most toys' only leaves more for those left behind to deal with... ;)

I dunno, I don't think it is faster than the Porsche, but it does have the turbo and 5-speed advantage. I think it could give her a good run, but the Porsche is over 10 years newer!! I guess I will have to see someday!
Lunch, anytime! Just call! Or dinner (I've kinda been packing my lunch to save bucks and loose weight).

Awesome Bart! I've been looking around for one for awhile as well, I just want to jam a flux capacitor in one and go back to 1955 lol. Congrats on the find, how long until you slap some new rims on it and start the modding :) And aren't turbo cars just a blast to drive!
The more I look at it the more it looks "ahead of its time" I think it aged well. It's similar to the VW Scirocco, Glad to see it go to a GREAT HOME, and not scooped up by a punk kid who would have destroyed it!
On a side note, how does one score a job that they can sit around,be bored, and buy cars they dream about:confused: You got it made Bart....Must be nice :winky:

Yup, that's cause the same guy designed all three of these around the same time:

Yeah, its funny how so many of these fall prey to young ricer kids who throw every cheap mod at it and tune it to DEATH. I saw SEVERAL that met their doom this way when I was looking. Sad indeed.

Computers. Get into computers. :) Seriously though, my job is feast of famine all the time. I might have 2 weeks where literally NOTHING happens except maybe I help someone make a shortcut on their desktop, and then I will have a week of sheer hell where it seems like EVERYTHING breaks all at the same time. Its just a roller coaster at my job I guess. I'm the only guy supporting my place and my boss works at another facility, so as long as I do my job and show up everyday, I basically manage myself. It is cush, I must admit. How else can you get a post count like mine??

See, imo, the ONLY cool looking thing about the gen 2 Impulse is the headlight line. Everything else I just can't get with for some reason. I don't know what it is, but its probably because of the Geo Strom. I think they're kinda horrible looking. Simply not my taste. I think there was definitely a shift that took place in the early 90s to a more rounded/bubbly design with just about all automobiles. Even the 2nd gen Troopers have a more rounded, less angular look to them, which I have never liked. They can be MADE to look rugged and cool, but out of the box they look like they belong in a grocery store parking lot. I guess for me, the 2nd gen Impulses have that
90s look to them, that is a major stigma for me. Just like the 90s Mustangs. They went from one of the meanest looking American made muscle cars, to a design that just COMPLETELY turns me off.
To this day, there is VERY LITTLE on the new market that interests me car wise. The VX was a little diamond in the rough. There STILL hasn't been a car or SUV that is moderately priced with such aggressive, unique, and fresh looks. The VX is old now, but it still definitely stands out, as we all know.
For me, I never REALLY gave the Impulse much thought. That changed in about 5 seconds after I drove the local one for sale here. Even though the one I drove was in terrible physical shape, it still drove well, and I was surprised with its zippy attitude. I was immediately hooked. I suppose the seed was planted for me a while back though, when I started thinking about buying a car that gets better fuel economy. I didn't think of the Impulse, nor did I really plan on buying another car anytime soon. It just happened. The timing couldn't have been worse, but at the same time, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get such a nice, original one with low miles.
The worst part is, I want another one, just like I want another Trooper, and another VX. I need help.

I'm with you bart on the '90s Mustangs & the 2nd generation Impulse...never cared for the 2nd gen Impulse/storm.
I had a neighbor during the '80s that had a silver Impulse when I had my "Knight Rider" '82 Trans Am and always liked his Impulse.
I bet you liked the Chrysler Conquest TSI Turbo/Mitsubishi Starion coupes too? If you don't remember them...google it up and take a look!
I almost bought a black Chrysler Conquest TSI Turbo a few years back...wanted a stick though and it was an auto.
Congrat's on the car...and I think "white" would be a good change of pace for you! lol.

Ahhh yes. A couple months back, there was a MINT, all black Starion on eBay. It was a gorgeous car!
I also like the old 80s Supras too. But man, once the 90s hit, everything got round and bubbly and just plain ugly, imo. :(

The Impulse and the Starion are both awesome little cars. I've actually been wanting a Starion for a while but I already have three toys and my GF would kill me if I got another one. As far as the rounded look on the late 90's mustangs, I rather like my 98. Think its the best looking style of the Mustang. Except for maybe a nice Fox Notch.

Yeah, see Rabid, I just can't get with that style Mustang. IMO, it just looks like any other car. And I don't care so much for the 80s Stangs either, they are just kinda boring. THIS is the Stang I would buy if someone handed my the cash:

THAT is a wicked machine. Otherwise, I would pass on just about all Mustangs, including the 69 that everyone thinks is the best...I think its girly lookin, I don't like the late 60s Stangs AT ALL.
