Its time for the 5th annual Arizona camping trip. The numbers have been dwindling so lets get together and have a great weekend in the much colder desert!
When...Dec.4/5 2010
Time...0600
Where...Rug Road trail (same as last year)
meeting spot...Circle K in Mammoth, Az.
Who...everyone welcome
So clear your calandars, grab a few steaks for the grill, don't worry 'bout cleaning the VX (it's just gonna get dirty again) and come join in the fun!
:dance::dan_ban::dance::dan_ban::dance::dan_ban:
The trail is slow going, rough and rocky. Last year daytime temps were perfect...upper 60's/low 70's. Night time was cold...low 20's so a good sleeping bag or a lot of blankets are recommended!
Lots of beautifull scenery, mine ruins, indian ruins, and river crossings.

Wifey works all weekends... I told her about this, and if she can get someone to switch days then we would be in. I'll have to say maybe for now ;)

LunaX...if the wife has to work you can still go solo!:bwgy:
Sue...if we do the same trail as last year which it looks like we will, the trail departs from Mammoth and ends in Clondike. From there it is another hour or so to Wilcox. We camp about 3 hours from Wilcox...you could push all the way through but it would be a LONG day. If you want to look it up on GPS the trail is "Rug Road".

Hey Billy, I'm trying to work the schedule so I can join. I'm moving back to Virginia in January so that will probably be my last chance to do some SW wheeling til May.

That would be awesome! Hope it works out. Didn't you just move to NM a year or so ago?

We are currently in the process of moving... don't have the funds to buy a new set of 18" tires to put on the OEM's
Hopefully, 2011 will be a more user friendly year for us...;)

Well we ended up with only 2...me and my buddy in his Tacoma TRD. Was a great trip though. The trail was as fun as ever, the weather was great (upper 70's day/low 30's night). Didn't get many pics...just a few with my phone.

Then my buddy decided to drive down the river instead of across the river. It didn't go as planned. Toyota buried to the frame in sand!

I usually throw a few trips together each year. The late fall/early winter camping trip has become an annual thing. Keep your eyes on the site...I always post the trips up here.

Got anything in mind for this year? I will be traveling to Costa Mesa for the next two months, but I hope to catch a good trip this year.

Once it cools down a bit and my race season comes to a close I want to run Charleau Gap and maybe another overnighter. If you ever want to do a short day run let me know and I can squeeze it into my schedule...there are some good trails for day runs out at Reddington.

Yeah, Billy's organized it for several years.
Didn't get together in 2012 though.
Here's the thread from 2011:

We also had a small get-together early in 2011:

There are some fun off trail/optional stuff but the main trail is not to bad. Qith the right lines through the rocky river a near stock VX (offroad tires/skidplates recommended)) could make it through. Here (http://vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?t=10307&highlight=gap) is a trip report from a previous trip VCamilo and I took through a few years back (unfortunately the pic links look to be dead). The BLM has actually made the trail easier since they bulldozed one of them obstacles :(

And here (http://vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?t=14547&highlight=gap) are some videos from another trip that we didn't finish because the river was flooded. The obstacle I was hung up on is the one that got dozed :(
(Remember, if you google most of the trails in Moab you will find lots of flips, rollovers and carnage)
