'99 VX tires... how big can i go without a lift?

Hey there... I just got a VX and I definitely want to put some new tires on it, bigger and wider than stock... gonna get some new wheels too, but staying with 16's.... so how big can I go without doing any suspension work yet? I'd really like to do 32's, is that possible?

I ran 265/75-16's for a long time with only a couple quick cranks on the torsion bars and some mild trimming. Thats on a stock offset wheel. When I moved to wheels with less backspacing they started to rub like mad on turns. So it depends on whether you're ok with some minor, hardly noticable trimming and whether you consider a couple cranks on the torsion bars a "lift" or not. I'm now running 275/65-18's on the stock wheels and haven't noticed any rubbing and they're slightly bigger than the 265/75-16's.

So to answer your question, 32's are very possible.

Getting larger tires is a real frequent discussion on here, for the 16"s as well as 18".....try searching, and you'll get a ton of info and probably lots of pics too.

Going to an "aftermarket" wheel is gonna' throw a monkey wrench into the equation and create various degrees of rubbing issues due to improper offset/backspacing. It would be much wiser to stay with the OEM 16x7 Stock Rims which have the correct offset/backspacing to minimize rubbing; then no lifting will be required, thus remaining 100% at stock height and you can go with some 32" O.D. tires in one of these two(2) sizes:

A. 265/75R16 (31.65" O.D.). Pick this somewhat narrow 265 series tire if you want an A/T type tire.

B. 285/70R16 (31.71" O.D.). Pick this wide 285 series tire if you want an M/T type tire, in which case there are only two(2) tires made in this super-rare size (Toyo, Open-Country M/T and Nitto, Grappler M/T)
