View Full Version : Center console arm rest question

I think that on the earlier Vehicrosses (1999) the padded center console arm rest was shorter in height and had a different hinge. I once ordered an armrest from Merlin and it didn't work on my 2001. Mine had a different hinge configuration and my armrest was thicker. I have 2 of the armrests pictured from a Rodeo. Will this fit some early VXs? If these would actually fit then I would be willing to practically give them away to Forum members. Just wondering. I've been cruising some salvage yards and occasionally find parts off Rodeos and would like to pass them along as they become available.

My hinge goes across all the way as well.
Isuzu shows 2 console lids.

8-97292-551-0 06/1999 - later
Do you usually keep three of these around?

I already sold my armrest, but if you want to measure center to center on the mount holes, I can measure mine(on a 1999) to see if they'd match up.

I re-covered them in attempt to sell.. sales were not good ;Db; so im actually waiting on material to make a small improvement to them and ill try again!

I tried to fit these but they will not mate up to the shape of the top of the console so these are Rodeo only armrests. Oh well. :(

Does it fit at all, say if you swapped the hinges? I have a perfect arm rest, but was thinking about trying a cup holder mod, be a shame to destroy mine, knowing there are a lot of folks with worn arm rests. I wouldn't mid if it had an overhang, as long as it fit between the seats and latched shut.

Let me take a closer look tomorrow and see if some kind of mod would make it possible to use these somehow.

I think he means that it "clicks" shut when you close it. Not a latch in the sense of something you have to do/undo to close/open it; in other words, no button to push.

Not that T4B needs any training on pushing buttons...he can do that with one finger...:bwgy::smilewink:bgwo::bgwb:

I ... er ... umm ... well ...
I have no response to that
What I meant was: mine no latchy; mine no clicky. Our old friend gravity does the job very nicely.
As far as the hinges go: they work too. I'm always too busy looking at people pointing at the VX to ever pay attention to what the hinges look like.

I checked the armrest and it might be possible to adapt it but I'm not going to attempt it. The following link is to the identical armrest on eBay so you can see the configuration more clearly.

If someone wants to experiment with this armrest or needs the little latch prong thing I'll send it along to you free. I have 2 of them. Just send me your mailing address.

I thought the only difference was the tires and wheels. It does explain why the armrest is so thick in my '01. They probably used the same console, but just thickened the armrest to make it more useable.

Interesting variation. Bears looking into further. Could your 2001 been modified along the way, or did you buy it new?

Nope, there are several differences. Climate control in the 00 and 01 is different than the manual 99. I know the 01 AC compressor is completely different than the others. Those are the ones I know of, that means there must be others, what are the chances that I have personally come across all the little differences? I will compare the arm rest from the 99 and mine and see if they are the same.

The lid assembly shown in the Parts Manual (page 12) has different part numbers for 1999 and 2000/2001. (Ditto for the "Upper Lock.") Also, the center console as a complete assembly is listed as "to 5/99" with a second part number for "from 6/99 through 2001".
Makes me wonder if the lid & upper lock on my VX are incorrect. It doesn't seem to "latch" solidly - kinda like the toof that hangs down off the lid (the lock) doesn't line up with the latch on the lower console.
