So after restoring my cladding last week, the tail lights just looked like eye sores to me, the way they dip into the cladding area.... it was too much.

So I found some Red lense spray, because i'm not a fan of the orange section on top... i taped off the reverse lense area, so the full reverse light would shine thru. also, taking the extra time to mask off this area gives it a nice custom look...

1. After removing the lights from the truck, I masked them off and also, as said a minute ago, masked off the reverse lens.
2. Sprayed the whole lens with the red spray, making it completely uniform red, nice and smooth, no more nasty amber turn signals!
3.After letting the red dry about an hour, i masked off the top half of the light, at the same part where the cladding cuts across it...
4. Sprayed the bottom part of the lights with VHT night shades tint spray. Not too dark, just enough to make them blend a lil better into the cladding.
5. Wait til the VHT dries and remove the tape from the lights
6. Then apply some high gloss clear coat over the entire lens...
7. I then reinstalled them onto the truck, waited a day, wet sanded and buffed out the clear a bit, and applied a small piece of pinstriping tape to better separate the 2 halves of the lens.

finished:

I also found a guy on ebay who makes the VX logos for the front grill... they are 3-D like the vehicross logos and are available in a bunch of colors.
Great quality!
Just paste this item #260566055532, into the search on ebay motors. $10 + shipping....

There's another seller of VX emblems on ebay, many of us have bought from him. He owns a Vehicross too. His are a little different than yours, has more CF choices and has a nice faux brushed stainless steel.

He doesn't seem to have any on ebay right now, but he has them on his website: Or you can contact him and he'll list some on ebay. They're a bit more expensive than the other seller.

Man that is just amazing, I know many here are into the hardcore offroad mods and consider appearance stuff for the weak-stomached, but it's great to see someone pushing the envelope on new ideas. The blending idea is completely out-of-the-box but totally makes sense, too bad I like the VT maroon/orange look of the amber lights against the Foxfire body too much to change lol. ;)

do you still get an amber light out of the indicator or it much more red now??

Well, I like the tail lights just fine the way they are, but... that looks excellent! It looks like something that might have been done at the factory - maybe on a special edition or on a later year model. (I know that sounds lame, but it's actually my highest compliment when it comes to mods. :))

thanks dude, much appreciated! i've always tried to mod stuff a lil differently, ya know? i'd love to be a "hardcore offroader" but living on long island doesn't really allow for that. i just need my truck to make it onto the beach, not thru the moab. so if i can still get some compliments for "out of the box" then i'm cool with that...

just figured it was something simple that no one else seems to have done yet so maybe i'd give u guys something fresh.
the side view picture doesn't do any justice to the lights, i'll take a new, better one this week n post it. maybe more people will see what i saw then.
thanks again.

it's much more red now, but that's what i was going for. not sure how legal that might be, but it's not a major deal around here...

Hey Mike, most likely, you're legal. I've never come across any statutes in the U.S. that require amber rear turn signals or prevent changing "factory amber" to "custom red."

I suspect the ONLY way your mod might be illegal is if the signals (or brake lights) no longer meet the requirement of being visible from ____ feet away. ("___" will vary on your local laws. :)) You have painted and tinted the plastic which probability reduced the visibility. If it's too much that's bad, but if they still meet the distance requirements then nobody cares.

* Disclaimer: I'm an idiot on (and off) the internet and do not know all laws in all locations. You have paid $0 for my opinion/advice - you may be due a refund. It's usually not easy, but eventually you will find a website that details all the statutes where you live if you look long enough.

I have both front and rear lights completely blacked out, never had any issues.

I like the mod,it match the cladding's line crossing along the rear.

Hey mike,we can catch up any time, just let me know i live near valley stream here in long island.

Nothing is more pleasant thean seeing two nice astral together :bgwo:

Oh yeah.....

Hey Mike, when you get time could you post one more photo? I'd love to see one from farther back that shows the entire VX from a back 3/4 view. :)

I did mine by baking and cracking the assembly to paint from the inside. ClearKornerz actually did it for the VX but I have done it on my WRX and STi. Couldn't argue since I have the only prototype set they ever did for the VX. ;)

Replaced all lights with LED clusters, painted the interior chrome lining with a satin black, re-goop, and re-bake. Best way to do it but it is a weekend's job and pretty messy. Lot's of folks end up screwing up on the baking part, but it is not too bad as long as you pay attention.

I am still considering doing a set of headlights for the VX. I had one junker assembly to test on and the baking process is a bit more difficult with them, but do-able.

Ya, watch that amber. When I lived in Jersey, I was hounded for having non amber signals. I have since found an awesome replacement though....

I only found a direct application for my STi and they work excellent. A little grunt work would probably be ideal for the VX. ;)
