View Full Version : Steering Wheel...
Ok, I've searched using every criteria & combination I can think of, also goog'd all over the net trying to find any kind of steering wheel hub/adapter that'll allow me to install a sparco or momo steering wheel.
I don't care about losing the airbag, lived to almost fiddy without one, so more than willing to gamble on skill & luck...:smilewink
I've seen aftermarket steering wheels on racing team VX's, so I know it can be done.
Outside of fabricating my own, anyone got ant ideas?
Thanx in advance...:_steering

I don't know if you like them larry, but you can peep into momousa.com for some models that may fit what you are looking for.
As a matter of fact i was on facebook yesterday evening chatting with one of the members living in puerto rico who is looking to get a momo in his VX.

momo made the JDM VX steering wheel. i cant imagine they made that wheel for only those VXs.. prob a standard design, maybe someone across the pond can chime in about any adapter or anything theirs uses?

Sorry Bro, for whatever reason (like putting her all back to stock if I ever decide to sell) I rarely part with replaced parts, I still have my stock rear springs...:rolleyesg

I partially agree with you Eric, but on the other side of that coin, they did contract with Yakima for a "one off" roof rack...:_confused

There is definitely a steering hub for the trooper, can't imagine its different. Just pop the air bag off and count the splines on the steering shaft and find a match!!!
By the way you can splice the horn wire before the clock spring so that you don't need a steering wheel with a horn button. Just re-mount it else where, its a simple earth switch.

OK...after some more digging around, I've found some adapters that look like they should work.

The "Momo clone" (read: about 1/4 the price) in the top pic is edging out the others at the moment...

Losing the airbag doesn't bother me as much as the fact that I might be tempted (or stupid enough) to replace the six cap screws with spikes...
I'm also thinking one these things (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NRG-GEN-2-BLACK-CARBON-STEERING-WHEEL-QUICK-RELEASE-HUB-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aIsuzuQQhashZitem255 c57d174QQitemZ160463049076QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruc kQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_4668wt_1165) might be nice, but only if theres not enough dish to whatever I decide on, & it feels too far away.
I like that square wheel but... have you read any ratings?
I'm also digging that square one. Nice find Dub! Not sure I'm willing to give up the failbag tho.

How does the JDM wheel differ from ours?
Take a look. This is a pic from VX-157's gallery, the JDM wheel is 3-spoke, has the Momo logo embossed on the bottom spoke, as well as the nifty gray "starburst" center (obviously the wheel is black, he just has a red cover over it). What's interesting is that the vast majority of JDM wheels seem to have the Isuzu logo in gray, but on some models (LTD175 maybe?) it's in red.

I'd like a quick release adapter on my ride as well, as I too have an aftermarket steering wheel.

Yeah, & I wanna see "Machette" when it comes out on DVD...:smilewinkI think you are thinking way too small Dub, that's beneath u. :p Get an F-1 wheel with an onboard computer readout in the center and a paddle shifter kit so you can install 6 cup holders in place of the floor shifter!
Coolest.

Ldub, if you want to see mine, look at Medman's gallery, as he was the PO. It looks good with the CF dash, but it doesn't have any red that I think you are looking for. I replaced the knobs with the factory ones, and I think it looks a lot better now. I would really like a quick release for it though.

The PO put the steering wheel in, so I'm not sure which one he used.
I know one of the switches turns on the rock lights for about 3 seconds, and then it turns off? I don't even know what all the switches are for, it needs some electrical work. Hopefully none of them are eject seats.

As far as seats, have you looked into suspension seats (PRP etc.)? They help smooth the trail and you can get pretty much any color combo you want!:yesy:

A...prolly not, mebbe on the back side...:smilewink
2...If it weren't for the realities of headroom & budget, I might.
I had an adjustable suspension seat in my old Mitsu Montagnard & it was sweet...:yesgray:
But that thing had more headroom than daddy G gots head...

Headroom shouldn't be an issue. The "suspension" is cord stretched across below the cusion instead of steel ribs so they sit just like a regular seat. There are a few knockoff companies that make'em a bit cheaper.

BTW, what was your process for painting the door panels? It looks like you blended into the original color at the rear of the panel like there is a gradient.

Mirrors??....emphatically YES!!!
The gradient is courtesy ma nature...just the way the sun is hitting it through my dirty windshield.
The process???...Popped the panel, took it all apart, cleaned everything getting the squirt with acetone, then cleaned it again with 91% rubbing al-key-haul, shot it with some bulldog adhesion promoter, an undercoat of silver to cover the salmon, a couple coats of ace hardware "apple red" (banner red krylon just didn't "POP"), then a couple coats of krylon flat clear.
Shot the spkr grillz with satin black, & the map pockets with the silver undercoat + flat clear.
Everything else got a generous dollop of areo space 303.
