View Full Version : BMX Handgrip for parking brake?

Kind of a small mod, but was thinking of trying to put a handlebar grip on the parking brake, something aggressive like an old school BMX grip or a funky ergonomic grip. First issue is the diameter of the parking brake itself. I am doubtful it would fit.

I figure that someone here has a motorcycle. Is the diameter of the handlebars on a motorcycle tube large enough?

Anyone know of any other unusual grips from machinery that don't have a cheesy "tuner" look to them? ie. Looking for an industrial look on the interior. Think newest batmobile, or the truck from District 9 for inspiration. I have found lots of little rubber parts that I am saving till I can use them: r/c truck tires, black rubber pen grips, that sort of thing. Like to find a small item that could be used on the '99 heater knobs. Figure there must be someone in our group that has tried to find similar items to use for styling and might have ideas.

They make some "wraps" for hammers. I'm not sure how aggressive they are,
But they are grippie!

You might want to investigate using "Bicycle Handlebar Tape" which comes in many different colors and various cushiony rubber-like material/fabric. Visit your local bicycle shop and/or the internet for various ideas.

Was more of a cosmetic thing, so I am looking for an actual unusual grip with a texture or pattern of some kind --as opposed to tape wrap. So was thinking that motorcycle grips might be larger circumference on the inside versus a bicycle grip. I would have to "stamp" a hole in the end for the release button for whatever grip I eventually find. --Sort of an obscure mod.

there is 2 sizes of motorcycle grips
metric all imported
HD all U.S.

Basically there are two sizes of handlebar in the motorcycle world so, therefore, there are two sizes of grips to suit: 7/8" (22mm) or 1" (25mm) and PLEASE NOTE: The size refers to the diameter of the handlebar tubing NOT the grip.

NOTE: A pair of 7/8 grips (or a pair of 1") will have the same outside diameters but will be different inside diameters to suit the handlebar size on the LEFT or the twistgrip size on the RIGHT!

if i remeber correctly

(RCA dog look)

I have R/C truck tires. Was asking about motorcycle (interior diameter) grips, since I figured that there have to be some riders on this site.

What a waste... 6 days left, and already 11 bidders have it up to ~$141. All for the broken off top of a flight stick with badly chipping paint.

Gives me an idea though. I used to have a "Top Gun" USB joystick in the 90s....might even be able to rig some of the switches for low voltage stuff. Still Not as cool as the real deal. Still looking for some sort of chunky industrial grip. I'll know it when I see it.

Hey I think I've got a steering wheel controller for my original Nintendo... maybe you could just replace the steering wheel with that? It has conveniently located trigger buttons... :laughy:

For great prices on dirtbike parts, try Rocky Mountain ATV XC out of SLC Utah. Or I'll trade you mine for an OEM one. Look for it in Medman's gallery as he was the PO.
