That VX was for sale for years. It looks like this guy might be a collector or restorer.

Maybe one of y'all down Texas way could invite him to join here?

I've noticed that quite a few VX's for sale don't have the ENGINE COVER...how do you not have the engine cover...who takes that off anyway...

I seem to remember their car was Red w/ white stripe and in decent shape. That VX was one used up vehicle hopefully the new owner can save it. As for the engine cover it is hard to keep on when the spongy things holding it on keep falling out. I am down to three with one somewhere down in the motor.

Good find!
Funny part is - those are new Starsky & Hutch stripes. The old ones were a little thinner, longer on one side and were filled with cracks. Also, the hood insert was not red when I saw it.

I'm surprised at how good the exterior looks (well, as much as you can tell from small photos) because the previous dealers photos (above) were very outdated when I saw it. In person the VX looked like it had at least one year's covering of grime / weather. I wonder if the new seller was able to get the "abandoned in a field for 50 years / maybe I've been submerged / dead car" smell out of the interior.

I doubt he'll be joining us here. I guess he bought it to fix it up and sell it. It still has major issues, but it's much better cosmetically speaking anyways. At least he's put it up with no reserve. It could be a part-time spare vehicle and used for parts to keep your original VX going. :_confused

When I was looking to buy my VX when I was in Fort Worth, I went to look at this one, and as soon as the told me that they were unsure about the miles, I walked away. Glad I did too, because I got my girl and she has been perfect to me other than when I break her. I actually thought all VXes had that stripe when I started looking because it was the first one i found.

"It's not such a bad little tree, Charlie Brown."
Nobody is sayin' pay $5K and use it as your daily driver. If you can get it for under $4K, you got a ton of great parts there. I'd love to have that VX sittin' unregistered and uninsured as my spare parts depot. I think this guy made it look very presentable. I wouldn't trust the drive train, but man, all them great body parts. :_confused

All I know I that I HATE seeing the miles listed as 97,000 in the advertisement when it's documented as having a 100,000 mile rollback on the odometer. Good job AutoCheck for reporting that as a "minor issue."

Lots-o-worthless pics, none showing the engine bay or the undercarriage, just some lame glamour shots...

Extra points to the seller for mentioning the roll-back & frame damage in the description:
The items found on the history report point to a rolled back odometer, and unibody damage. The current title is free and clear and you should have no problem registering this car in your state. The odometer reading change is most likely from an instrument cluster replacement and as far as unibody damage goes I am unaware of any issues and am fully confident that the drivability and safety of this car is solid. All of this was done prior to me buying the car.

Paint/stripe don't match the pic in earlier links. Unless repainted, how da you know it's the same unit?

Paint/stripe don't match the pic in earlier links. Unless repainted, how da you know it's the same unit?Good eye! The stripes have been replaced and are different now. In the earlier photos they didn't line up the same from one side to the other and were peeling / flaking (something you couldn't see in photos.) Also the seats have been replaced. I know this is true because I saw this VX in person years ago and they were in extremely bad shape. One thing you can't see - it smelled so musty that you would have thought it had been submerged for a year. My memory could be faulty, but I seem to remember that Richard painted the hood insert red to match the stripes.
But no matter what, the AutoCheck vehicle history report tab on eBay is IDENTICAL. It shows the mileage rollback from 190k miles to 90k miles and the comment about the auction reporting the frame damage.
I seriously doubt that all of that could be coincidence.
This VX is VERY memorable for me since it was the FIRST one I saw in person while I was shopping. :)
