Must be honest, haven't been much of a Jeep fan since MOPAR's involvement with them, but this one is pretty sweet and home doable for the most part. http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-jeep-lower-forty#2417391

IS there going to be a hybrid model? Perhaps a diesel? It would be really hard to drop 50k on a jeep that gets 9mpg off the lot...:bgwb:

The jeep 40 is not even a jeep design. This jeep has been built for a couple years or more by the aftermarket. Companies make the hood and the genders are cut. 2inch lift and 40's. If you do a search on pirate4x you will see a lot on the subject...jeep just stole the idea.
and the genders are cut..
And we all know how painful THAT can be...

I know there isn't a suspension lift- maybe a 2" body lift :_confused
Its a really good idea for those who own jeeps and want 40's. Why spend $$$$$ on a 6-8" suspension lift and make your vehicle super top heavy when you can just do some body modifications, keep a low center of gravity and have the option of adding a little suspension lift for articulation.
I think they should remake it as the "lower 37," it would look way better and be feasible for daily driving

I'm not much of a Jeep fan either, since I own a classic FJ-40 (a Jeep's #1 arch ememy). Still, the Lower-40 looks kinda' cool, but it needs some sort of "hard-shell" roof (much like the Hummer HX/H4 has). Convertibles (like soft-top Jeeps) can't be "buttoned-up" for long term parking while at a ball game or movie, and are prime targets for vandals and car prowlers with a knife.:(

I saw it in Moab a couple years ago in the Jeep display at the EJS. Someone drove it away, floored it and jumped the curb... looked like a BLAST to drive snd sounded cool!

Until someone mass markets the Warthog from Halo I think I'll stick with the VX.

Hummer has a Warthog-like concept. Heres to hoping they make it:_beer:

Only one slight itty bitty problem...
...the hummer brand no longer exists!:bwgy:
I like the 40...if I were to ever own a jeep that is how I would like it set up. I just wish they would give credit where credit is due.

If it has anythlng less than big 'ol hemi in it I'd be dissapointed!:yesy:
And d60's too!:bwgy:
Sad thing is is that I can buy a better equiped jeep than the 40 on the pirate classifieds for $5-10k any day of the week.

We'll see, I think Hummer will be back with or without GM backing...preferably without IMO.

I seriously doubt it. Did you see the electric car thread? How about 5 dollar a gallon fuel by end of this year. No way hummer could make it through that, its what shut them down to begin with. Maybe a golf cart sized hummer, like that little Jeep 4x4 smart car thats coming out...

Don't electric cars make a TON of torque? I would think someone could build a tough electric offroad vehicle, with the available torque from an electric motor it should wheel pretty good.

Yep..... for about 10 minutes. Not a good mix for trail riding. Can't really carry a jerry can of electricity. :)

LOL, my kids had a Jeep Hurricane, that thing would get up and move. I used it haul bags of concrete when I did my fence. I put 4 bags plus me in that thing and it drove us around...but it only lasts about 30 minutes on a charge.

was it good on grass? I gonna need something like that for my kids next year. Hate cheap China made ones (only for pavement)...

Worked just fine on grass, sand, dirt, you name it. I did wrap the tires in duct tape for traction. It has enough torque that if you touch the pedal those tires spin.
For the cost, I would just buy a gas powered pocket quad. I wish I would have got one of those to start with...we sold the hurricane on CL for 100 bucks.

If you do an jntrnet search you will find a ton of ways to mod those things. Bigger batteries make them go quite a bit faster!

Doesn't look battery powered (since that seems to be where the thread has gone) but badass? Heck yes.
edit: Upon further investigation of the creator's site, I think it doesn't actually exist in rl--too bad, looks nifty!
