Looks like a cheap Rover Defender copy. At that weight I don't see why any one would buy it even though the price isn't bad. And if anyone wanted the paramilitary frills... they could just buy a Pinzie or Mog for less.

Actaully to be designed in 1966, it's pretty good looking.

You can definitely see the Rover influence, and I agree with the Defender 110 comment. Then again, most of the early Japanese utes took their cues as well from the Land Rover and Gelandewagen. I'm with Paul though, gimme a Pinzie or a 416 DoKa 'Mog!

Yeah, if it wa a bit lighter I wouldn't mind having one actually. Or even the Lada Niva... neat, in a cheap thrills kind of way. Interesting little cars. Saw one up close several years ago in Taiwan. The interior looked like it was straight from a military truck. Diamond plate here and there.

Niva is also available in 4 door (extended weelbase) formfactor. It was the first consumer oriented 4 weel drive car (note my wording here - not SUV but 4 weel drive) available in the USSR to a consumer powered by 1.6 L engine (the most you can get at the time). It was very popular in rural places and for hunting/fishing.
You still can find them today in Canada. They were imported under "Cossack" logo.

Huh! That's the first car I learned to drive growing up, my uncle had one. The only car I liked in the boring more than modest Soviet car lineup.
It was early for its time, and it has been exported to all over the world, often under other brands:
