Well after you asked in your thread it made me want to go snap a few pics of the Sierra. Here ya go!

Forgive the dirt, it's been raining everyday this week just about

Interior is super clean:

Has a nice Pioneer head unit, all upgraded speakers and an MTX Thunderform sub/amp combo under the rear seat. Sounds really nice in the truck

They had a recall on the factory gauge clusters so when the previous owner had it fixed, he paid extra for the Silverado SS cluster, even has a factory Trans Temp gauge on the lower left!! (yes it works)

So much more room for the kids now and to haul us around and all our crap
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/RamAirZ/2004%20GMC%20Sierra/IMG_5849.jpg

Has the factory heavy duty towing package with extra trans cooler and an oil cooler, 3.73 gears, high performance suspension package (quoting the window sticker lol, it was a $32K+ truck new in 04') etc. It's a 2wd but has the same frame setup as the 4wd/SS's with the torsion bars up front instead of coil springs, 4wheel discs, has the same tbars and keys as the SS too. I'm thinking about throwing some headers on it through the factory muffler to keep it quiet but have a cutout on it, I'm dropping the rear to level it out, new intake, thinking about a cam swap with a trailblazer converter to aid in towing and some more performance. And thinking about dropping this nitrous kit I have laying here in it for fun.

don't hate the player, hate the game lol. And last I checked you got the svo, got rid of the Mach, got the VX and if they total'd it you were gonna get a Lightning! I might have an 89' Trooper RS soon too if this guy gets back to me.

Bob Barker
02/05/2011, 02:07 PM
hehehe... There is a nice lightning on FS right now that I really want. If I had any backbone I would empty the bank account and just go buy it, but I'm afraid of what my wife might do to me while I sleep.

RamAirZ
02/05/2011, 02:16 PM
Ya, hopefully her name isn't Lorena!! You talking about that black one on there? That'd be a sweet truck, I'd have to go with a Harley Edition crew cab though if I went with a supercharged Ford truck, I need the room, damn family lol. Gotta love my wife though, I'm not allowed to buy another project car until I buy my 1st gen Camaro that I've always wanted. She's got her priorities straight!

Hmmpt, I never knew they offered such a thing as a 2wd w/torsion bars! Does that mean with a t-case and front axle you are fully ready for AWD if you wanted it? Same A-arms and knuckles and all that as well?

I wish mine came with a trans temp gauge - 'my' Sierra must not have come with the HD tow package.

This truck should be really handy for you to get all those parts for your Camaro project... IF YOU CAN KEEP IT LONG ENOUGH!!! :bgwb: I wish your wife luck convincing you not to make a project truck out of this one! Still, I think you should consider air overloads in the rear after you drop it. :yesb:

Yup, it's one of those bastard trucks lol. The VHO's were like that too. The only thing I need to do to convert it to AWD is change out the hub/bearing assembly for one for awd/4wd (will swap right out), bolt in a front diff (has all the mounting points) and swap the trans and add a tcase. I already found a complete AWD setup for it minus the trans (tcase, front diff, cv's, driveshafts etc etc) for $1400 shipped to my door. Haven't decided if I want to go that route though. The front diffs had issues with the factory spider gears not holding up and needing to redo the whole case (if you didn't crack it when it blew) so not sure if it's gonna be worth the money.

Ya I love the tranny temp gauge, will help out alot when towing. I know I say this alot but I really think this truck will be around for awhile, if it's not it'll be gone for another truck just like it basically (would have to be a duramax truck). I really miss having an actual full-size truck. Here's crossing my fingers, but I hope this one is around for awhile lol. The wife didn't say I couldn't make this a project, she just said I couldn't buy another one :p I've already ordered a few things for it :bwgy: I'm debating if I want to go with the air springs or these other things I found that are like a big rubber bumpstop that sits on the axle when compressed. Basically acts the same as an airbag when loaded down but you don't need to air it up.

Nice truck. What did it run you, or did you trade the Camaro for it?

RamAirZ

Thanks! and I traded the Camaro. Nada and KBB put it at around 12500.

ZEUS
02/06/2011, 10:17 AM
You shouldn't have to swap out the trans, just the tail end to fit a t-case (to my understanding). 'Course that's a lot of extra unneeded weight for a Florida tow rig. Interesting ride with lots of potential!

RamAirZ
02/06/2011, 11:57 AM
I'd have to swap the output shaft on my trans, if I was gonna do that I'd rather get a 4wd 4L80E trans to bolt in there instead lol. Ya I'm excited about it! Snapped a nice pic after the wash today, will post later

Looks good. Reminds me of my old 97 F-150, bought new. It was blue and silver and I dropped it 4/6 with 20 inch wheels on it and a roll pan, billet grill, flush fiberglass bed cover. Man it was clean. I hate that I sold that truck but I'm like you (not as severe) and needed something else to do. :o

RamAirZ
02/09/2011, 11:27 AM
lol @ the severe comment. I'm gonna be putting a billet grille in it shortly, no bed cover as I like my toolbox and not spending more money for the cover/box combo, and thought about a roll pan like I did on my 98' but think I'm gonna keep the bumper. Here's pics of my first Sierra:

So all the power-adders and engine work were in the 4x4? Ever run it down the track? What kind of power were you putting out?

RamAirZ
02/10/2011, 10:27 AM
Ya it ran low 8's in the 1/8 with just the blower on swampers, never ran it at the track with the nitrous. Did race a turbocharged Tacoma, couple GT's and various imports when I was younger in it lol. It surprised ALOT of people. I'm actually trying to source some turbo hot-pipes for my Sierra, if I can get them it'll be boosted shortly hehe

ZEUS

So which came first, the Sierra in street form or offroad form?

RamAirZ
02/10/2011, 03:13 PM
Offroad. Ended up getting tired of the LTB's and wanted to go a different direction with it since I was putting alot of power through it, thought a "street" truck would be better. Here is a timeline of it's life:

Bob Barker
02/10/2011, 06:38 PM
Yeah, well I got insurance and registered the SVO yesterday and plan to drive to work in it today but it was raining... and I don't have window's in it, or windshield wipers... so it sits in the garage alone again. It's sad, really.

RamAirZ
02/10/2011, 06:46 PM
This rain sucks! Everytime I want to work on something it's raining. Yeah I could pull it in the garage but it's depressing lol. So she's about to hit the road huh? Awesome!!! Finish the paint yet? How's she running?

Nice lookin Trooper.

The SVO runs good, but I have a probelm with boost. It keeps climbing out of control. Got the wastegate from Stinger who builds TONS of parts for these cars, as well as the manual boost controller. I can't figure it out. I don't think I've got the lines run wrong, but I haven't tested the wastegate yet either (been a little lazy with that). Other than that it's great. The paint isn't finished, just rattle can flat black primer while I try to figure out how to smooth out the door handles. I may have to sand down and re apply bondo, didn't do so great a job on the first try.

RamAirZ
02/11/2011, 07:14 AM
interesting. Should have 3 ports on the gate right? One to manifold vacuum/boost, one to the controller and one from the controller. How high is it climbing? Glad to hear it's running good other than that and black primer is always a good color!

http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/RamAirZ/irocprimer-1.jpg

Have you thought about using some fiberglass on the handles? Did you weld in a plate? Got any new pics!!

Thanks on the Trooper, I'm hoping I can get it from him, we'll see. Got an Eaton M90 and a teralow tcase lined up for it if I do

Bob Barker
02/11/2011, 11:05 AM
I should have welded in a plate, but I don't have a welder... so I found some stuff from Autozone that is a super thing expanded metal thingy that I epoxied to the back side of the hole and smeared bondo over the front. It's smooth to the touch, but there is a major color difference between that and the rest of the car.

and an eaton? That old motor can handle any amount of boost?

RamAirZ
02/11/2011, 11:59 AM
I'd be rebuilding it, the motor is gone in it so hoping to get it fairly cheap. Throw some pistons in it from a 93+ 2.6L and a new pre 93 head and it'd drop compression to about 7.5-8:1. slap some arp rod bolts and head studs and it should handle a decent bit, nothing crazy. Alot of guys run the Impulse turbo setups on em' without rebuilding, but ya gotta be careful with timing etc.

I think I know the stuff your talking about, ya it's "properties" aren't the same as the metal in your door so that's why you have the color difference, it absorbs the paint differently. I've got a few friends with welders down near you if you decide to try welding a plate in.

Sick truck! It would look better with Denali Quadrasteer bed sides on it instead of those IMO.

RamAirZ
02/19/2011, 11:15 AM
I don't think they would look that bad if you took the side molding off the doors to make it all flow better, but ya the quad steer bedsides would look cleaner. I think it's a sweet looking truck and I've been thinking about building mine similar but not sure if I want to or not.

RamAirZ
03/02/2011, 08:41 PM
John's SVO is still faster than anything I own at the moment lol. We'll see how she runs with the new turbo stuff, my eventual goal is 11.90's in the 1/4 but a more realistic goal is 12.50's, that's still moving for an extended cab fullsize pickup. I figure if it can hit 12's and still be able to pull a car trailer and haul my kids around, I've got an awesome multi-use vehicle lol. I could make it faster than that and go "crazy" with it but I'm wanting to keep it "budget" friendly and 100% reliable/comfortable from day-to-day

That's a good plan, as my SVO won't carry more than 2 people, and I don't trust it beyond a 20 mile distance from the house LOL!

I wish I could have gotten that lightning from FS that was listed a few weeks ago, but the wife wants silly things like a house and groceries instead of me having an awesome race truck!

damn wives and there needs, geez. They need to get their priorities straight!!!!

Thanks man, I want this truck to be 100% useful as a truck so I've tried to plan some of my mods out accordingly. Like I'm gonna run a single Denso in-tank Supra TT pump, be plenty for my goals and super reliable and less hassle to deal with like dual pumps, an intercooler that will fit behind the front bumper and not block airflow to the radiator and external trans cooler, even thinking about keeping my clutch fan. Ya it'll rob some power but the right e-fan setup to keep it cool is $$$$ and the LS1 fan swap that everyone does still allows the AC to warm up in traffic because it doesn't cover enough of the radiator. Ya that lightning would have been sweet but then you'd still have a 2 seater (3 at best) truck. I'd save up and look around for a Harley Edition, I told myself if I didn't get a GM truck that I REALLY liked I would keep my eye out for one of the early HD trucks. Lightning with more room :) Actually saw one today at my buddies shop, hearing that (h)eaton whine when he took off always makes me grin.

I've looked at those too, but everyone wants a TON of money if it's not partially trashed or not running. They seem to be holding value very well, and sellers know it!

Heehee, and here I thought I would have enjoyed the married life! HAHA, then again, I know a guy who is on his way to an awesome race truck and has a wife with a boob job! Damn it! Some guys have all the luck!

Ya that's what I was seeing when I was looking at them. I did find some around 10K in decent shape at times, had to drive far though to take a look at them

Been awhile since I added anything in here. Traded my stock 20's for some 22's the other day, and started cutting up a spare billet grille to go in my chrome bumper and the lower plastic portion.

So I took some "spare" parts I had lying around, including Brandon's old Magnaflow and made a side exit exhaust for her. I had the stock exhaust tips plus some piping left over my my Z28 that happened to fit about perfect (the one tip had a 90 degree bend that happened to be the perfect length to the muffler underneath lol). I extended the pipe off the other tip and cut a hole in the pipe off the muffler to make both tips functional. It's not PERFECT but it works and sounds good. The angle on the bed (which surprisingly isn't straight, it curves down near the tire) throws off the look of the tips in the pic. They are pretty sraight

The one pipe even had the factory exhaust hanger bracket in the right place. i took the factory piece off my stock exhaust and welded it to the frame above the pipes and used the stock rubber hanger. Worked out pretty well.

hahaha. I need to buy one too. I've got my buddies Lincoln at my house for a bit so I've been thinking up projects to use it for lol. I had a nice Miller our in San Diego but I sold it. I'm gonna be making another set of diff brackets and weld up my rear bumper tomorrow most likely. I don't know what the hell was up with the "outlet" on the muffler, all the other piping (including inlet) welded pretty smooth, but that piece was real blotchy. Had a hard time keeping a solid weld, i think i adjusted line speeds and temps like 50 times trying to get a decent bead going.

So I decided that the 22's weren't really my style and I could make some money by switching them out so I decided to make it look a little different:

Stock wheels with 265/75's with the 2" lowering
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/247731_2066140658839_1404466228_32511221_3806506_n .jpg

Rolled the 285/75's up to it with the stock height rear and front cranked to match:

2" lift block in rear and front cranked to match:

And after I got the 285's installed:

It rides great, and the 285's are in GREAT shape, they are Bridgestone Dueler APV's. I eventually want to put some Isuzu Snowflakes on it.
