not a bus at all...(OWNER of the 4 previous "BUS" body styles)...hate it...scion already has an X-Box.....no way shape or form falls into a "Bus" mold & Format.........which makes me wonder what niche VW fills in the commercial "Van" class.........it sure as hell wouldnt be this thimble

Well I was excited at first, but the pictures and prjected size was a huge let down. I do like the clasic paint line, but the head lights should be some what round.

GENEVA – Volkswagen AG is resurrecting its iconic microbus, which debuted in 1950 and became a favorite of hippies for its unique styling and copious space for travelers.

I'm guessing that even VW does not know their own lingo with the real hippie bus name. When i saw it in front of the Yahoo page it said BUS, but when clicked, it said microbus, hmmmmm they got me, those turds.

which is the best of the worst? The vw looks more like an adult mini cooper than the 60s microbus. I cant say for sure but I assume the microbus/hippie connection comes from the original term microdot from the old term for a hit of acid or LSD as it were.

they were called microbus's prior to acid...and the micro's were the ones with the rows of mini windows around the edge of the roof...a microscope effect

Facts below show LSD was out 12 years before the Bus and was used for trips 7 years before. The beleif it was the mini windows is an old wives tale as the first buses did not have the windows and the term was used prior to that optin

The psychedelic drug/entheogen LSD was first synthesized by the Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann in the Sandoz (now Novartis) laboratories in Basel, Switzerland November 16, 1938.[1] It was not until five years later on April 19, 1943, that the psychedelic properties were discovered.

shows not all had the windows around the top

and the VW Bus was not introduced until

The Volkswagen Type 2, officially known as the Transporter or informally as Bus or Camper, was a panel van introduced in 1950 by German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model — following and initially deriving from Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 (Beetle).

And if you must have the original in the 21 window variety...you can grab this one up before it's too late for only $60K....:bwgy::smilewink:bgwo::bgwb:

The ONLY VW bus in my opinion...

As far as the windows along the top...only the "deluxe" models had those.

Mile High..extra bonus...its a 1967 the best year for volkswagen...bus and bug

'67 was just the best year period, guess why :bday:

VW buses were called 'mico bus' because they resembled small versions of school buses. The only reason they are connected to hippies is because so many hippies owned them.

Prices on old vw's are outrageous, especially for 21 window buses. That new bus is FUGLY. All those boxes on wheels look like crap to me. I dont see how they ever sell them. I would almost rather have an Aztek (almost).

Here is a photo showing my wife's 1964 21-window Deluxe Samba Bus, alongside my 1967 Deluxe Bus. The "deluxe" referred to the silver trim around the body...NOT the little windows along the top. She's also got the full-length sunroof on hers.

My red one is still cool...but NOTHING like the rarity and cool-factor of the 21-window version.

Just read that the "Samba" designation refers specifically to the large sunroof. That sunroof, and the small windows up top, were for gazing at the lovely mountains while cruising through the Alps.

For real.

There used to be one of these driving around where I live.

The rear engine cover was adorned like a WWII fighter plane, with "kills".
Last time I spoke to the guy he was up to 9 engines and 4 transmissions.

Bus had over 300K on it.

Not sure I would drive any tank that has to be held in park by a block of wood. ;)
