Anyone interested in hood inserts with wrx style scoop. Start a project soon and need to guage how much time to spend on the mold. The more runs that are expected the more time I have to spend on the mold for the carbon part. Just give a shout on this post if you may be interested. Not look to make a ton of money, just enough to pay for my R&D. Dont have a price yet though.

Alright guys. Ill start working on it. I will be doing the work not farming it out. It may take a little time but it will happen because I need to replace the carbon fiber scoop hood on the VX I just bought.

Got pics of your insert that you could post? Would be interesting to see what you're planning on recreating, I think various members have tried at least 3-4 different styles in the past.

Count me in also - would like to see a stock replacement hood insert with a mild WRX scoop or cowl induction type of scoop.

I believe my mind has a strong interest. My pockets don't agree :o but I never listen to them! Seen the application previously and i do like 'em. Like MrLarrys, I don't necessarily need a carbon fiber unit. I do have a C/fiber prototype one-off insert now w/out scoop that I've never mounted. The stock type would be fine for me too with the scoop. The 'cowl induction' approach intrigues me even more! Keep me posted as this really sounds great. I can go either way. scott :_beer:
Also, I've seen some non-functioning 'cowl induction' hoods that have gauges mounted in the scoop opening and angled toward the driver. Cool, I think!

Which WRX style are you leaning towards??

The one I have looks exactly like the top picture in VCrossfan's reply but a little worst for wear. I plan on creating something simular. I am playing with the idea of giving it the ability to mount a forward looking IR camera and IR iluminator inside the scoop as I dont really see that it a functional scoop anyway.

Ok, the one I have and the one I will make does have some functinality then. Not intake but cooling functionality. Either way it will be a scoop. It will be up to the user to cut the hold or not.

So does yours face front or back? I've read that front-facing is great for ramming air into the engine bay, problem is you really can't control everything else that gets in - leaves, bugs, dirt, etc. Rear-facing you don't necessarily have that issue, although I've heard that water can be a problem if your hood is tapered forward (like ours). Some might also say that rear-facing doesn't look as cool as front-facing. ;)

its forward facing. I dont know about any problems it may cause. I have only driven my 20 from the place that I bought it. Its in my shop with most of the supercharger off. Get ready to send the SC off for rebuilding.

Not much worry about this in a forward facing for several reasons.
1 There is more garbage on the road coming up than would be above the hood.
2 Filter can be put in place to filter out bigger pieces
3 The top can hang out urther to keep stuff from dropping in (rain, acorns etc)
4 More water comes up from puddles than would drop down a small dam at the bottom would help even more.

Sounds good to me, I'd prefer a forward-facing scoop so I'll let you talk me into it. ;)

Like to see a bulging cowl induction style piece vs totally flat. The WRX scoop always looks like an old dryer lint trap. I know the opinion is based on a completely cosmetic opinion, but that style doesn't do it for me. It looks like an afterthought.
