Been looking for "industrial looking" interior parts lately, and found some mountain bike grips off eBay. Getting it on was a small challenge, but some soap helped....sorta like trying to put a condom on Mechagodzilla.

I'm sure almost any bike grip would work, but I purposefully looked for something off-brand as I figured it would be made of thinner rubber. Anyway, I just cut out a hole for the button using an scalpel. A good $4 mod.

I am still looking for other types of boots to cover other areas and spruce up the interior.

Nice job, I didn't know it was a bike grip until I read the thread. Now you can ensure your hand won't slip during those hand brake turns!!!

Looks nice Doug... I used an extra boot from the 4x4 shifter on the AT shifter and it works very well. Size is perfect and does not interfere with the action at all.

Where did you get the Diamond Plate mat??? I have been looking forever.

I am looking at getting a universal carbon fiber shift boot for the 4x4 shifter if I can't find a funky rubber shift boot that fits. Hard to find a good rubber one as everyone uses fabric now.

Here is a link to a company that sells the matting in a good size roll: (scroll down to see vehicle application).

I did this project in the 80s with a 77 Celica Liftback that I turned into a mini Mad Max Interceptor and used that for the flooring.

I really need to do it with the VX, as I trashed my interior going out to the Offroad Park in Hollister last time. Would be much easier to clean.
