Since there has been no talk of the trail choice lets here some suggestions!
Todd, what does the trail boss think? Got anything fun and new to throw at us?

How about Porcupine Rim?

Aside from the one "Waterfall" obsticle Steel Bender really wasn't too bad, but it might take us a while to 15 VX's plus guests through the trail. Poison Spider ain't too bad either.

Nah, I wouldn't do Steelbender. The stockers would not enjoy all those ledges that are just a little too tall to get over without scraping, let alone the Wall (which doesn't have a bypass).

Poison Spider would actually work because the tough obstacles all have bypasses.

We could drag everyone through Britney Speers...might get a scratch or two though.:winky:

As long as I"m not trail leader this year LOL. First part last year was good, second part was more then I had expected since I didnt plan on actually doing it.

I think it's Tuesday 5/17. Thinking of coming? I'm driving up Sunday morn if you want to caravan.

Steelbender is very rough on non-lifted VXes. I speak from experience. I'm glad I had the extra skid plates when I did it! There are a couple of pics from Steelbender in my gallery if you want to see how crazy the trail can get.

Yea, SB is probably not a good one for stock or 1st time off-roaders. Porc. Rim has a spot near the start that might be a little hairy for some but the rest is fairly easy. Poison Spider is not to bad...bypass's on most for the faint of heart and fun stuff for those that wish to push the limits.

HERE (http://www.rr4w.com/trails)is a good description of some of the trails with their ratings (1-10 scale) curtousy of the Red Rock 4 wheelers.
For the VX run purposes we probably want to stick with 4-5 and some 6's.
I have never done Strike Revine but it sounds interesting.

The results of Strike Ravine my first year there with 3" lift, 30" tires, and not stiff enough shocks....

I hate to mention the addition of this 'new' trail since I won't be around for the VX Run... but look up "Where Eagle's Dare"... Remember tho what Todd has said, discussing a trail run in this fashion can cause problems as it becomes considered an organized trail run in need of permissions... or something like that. That's why it is usually a surprise.

For what my opinion is worth, Where Eagles Dare looks doable, but I wouldn't take the Rusty Nail section.... that is a tough trail. I liked Flat Iron Mesa when I lived out there. You shouldn't get lost with a guide book, but taking a wrong turn off trail is fairly easy. It has a few nice obstacles and the narrow one (can't think of the name) is pretty fun. I didn't scratch anything, but it was close. Strike Ravine was ok. Not much to look at really, but was an ok drive.

Hope this helps a bit.

3D was also fun and when I did it it was very doable for a group of VX's - that was about 14 years ago tho... guesss I should go back and check it out again!

I've never done 3D, and I'd like to check out a new trail.
Plus, I think it won't scare any VXers away...

WHAT!! Far from town? It is a bit North, but not far really. Now... Elephant Hill....... THAT is far!!

Chicken Corners has some nice overlooks, but no real 4 wheeling involved... and LONG. There are really very few trails out there once you keep going back year after year AND if you have a stock four wheeler.

So, want something new?? Run the trail (that you have run 4 times already) backwards!! :driver: :drama:

Todd, as we have done in the past, we can leave it up to you to surprise us. Knowing the trails and vehicles as you do you always come through with something doable yet challenging.

Also, for any 1st timers...if you don't already have one I highly suggest you get a cb radio (a handheld will get you by and are inexspensive). Without one you miss a big part of the exsperience...in addition to general trail comunnications and chatter many of the seasoned trail leaders, such as Todd, have a wealth of knowledge about the orgins of the trail and history of the area that they share along the way. Plus you can razz those of us that try stupid stuff and end up stuck!

I have a handheld CB that anyone is welcome to use. I'll charge it up and make sure it's ready to go.

Todd, I didn't think that you guys were coming. Now I'm all kinda jazzed to go on the VX run......will you hold my hand, again, when I get a-scared?:p

im pretty sure todds vx would be fine, but i will let him speak as he knows more. I ran poison spider-golden crack- gold bar with me and jofotoz in his VX last year with no strap needed.

well yeah fine, I have seen a near stock Cherokee with 31"s do the same thing but this a different route that I am sure Todd has been on and the rest of us have not.

Oh, dont mistake justin. I take no claim to know the trails better than others. I just follow the book to get me there, and use the skinny pedal when I get there

Might be something completely different this year. We do plan on being there but will just bring the VX. We will be at Pack Creek Campground on Murphy Lane as usual but with a different tow rig. No big motorhome we have downsized to a camper on a one ton truck.
