From the original plan, things have changed. I won't be trailering the VX, and I have to make the move to Wa out of pocket. The Navy is moving the family to Norfolk since I will be there next summer. That means away from the family for 9 months or so.
I am driving the VX to wa, then shipping it back to KC.
I would like to camp in Moab, to save some bucks, but am not opposed to sharing a room with someone as well. Probably cost about the same as getting a powered site.
I am up for ideas. With the group so small, we can get some serious trail time in, no waiting on large groups and whatnot!! Yippee!!!! I need to add some more trail tats to my side window anyway, URE is beginning to take up more space than my Moab decals. :bgwb:

Well booo!!!! I got my orders to Washington, just like I wanted. Unfortunately they will not pay me to move my vehicles or my family to Washington since the ship is leaving for Norfolk shortly after I get there. Long story short, I won't be going to Moab. :( I will instead hit up Kansas Rocks and do some wheeling there, if there are any in that area, I will get you details as I figure them out. Then I will be renting a car and driving the rest of the way up to Wa. My plan is to see Rushmore, and then try and camp a few nights in Yellowstone since it will be just me. Sorry guys, this is incredibly disappointing for me.

I know Chris said he's out cuz of his move, but anybody else planning on going? I see the two "maybe's".
Moab's avg temp for Oct is 75/41, and it's the wettest month of the entire year at 1.26" avg rainfall.

But the trails are so much more fun when they are wet! Nothing like ice skating on tip over challenge :)

I have that weekend free if anyone still wants to go. I missed Moab this year because i moved to Denver on a job offer the same week. I would love to go before winter if anyone is serious about meeting up for a day or two.
I'll RSVP yes for now.

I would like to go. I was looking at attending this but figured that it had fallen through.
That date is comming up fast, but I would be game even if it was the following weekend. Let me know.
Zeus, we misssed you at the SLC breakfast. Rick said you work late so you might not make it. It would have been good to meet since I like the work I have seen you put together.
It would be awsome to hang with some VX'rs and learn the ropes for this vehicle. Haven been off roady for way to long

Sounds good, lets wait another week for others to respond. I know Jack (PBkid) is out of town this week & he will probably go if he has the weekend free. I'll also PM some other Colorado VXers.

I'm still stuck at "Maybe". Need to wait to see how life is treating me when the time gets closer, but I'll probably be able to make it out there.

Ironically, since I started the thread, I can't do it that week. I won't be leaving Missouri until the 17th or 18th, its a solid 1.5 day drive from KC to Moab. If that would be better, for others, but I can only be there for a few days. I could swing the 19-22 Oct better. That would mean no Yellowstone. But 3-5 trucks in a Moab group means we could do LOTS of trails. No waiting for hours while folks get pulled up various obstacles. Since I am locked now, and perhaps Jack can make it, (his yota locked yet?) we can do pretty much whatever and make sure every truck gets through with minimal carnage. Besides, I will have to drive the VX the rest of the way to Washington, can't destroy too much. What do you guys think?

I've been watching this thread and wishing....but I have deadlines for the project I am managing at work all through Oct and Nov. I couldn't take more than a regular weekend off, which doesn't allow for much travel time :(

As much as I love wheeling Moab I will have to live vicariously through the pics. I am in full swing Ironman prep right now getting ready for my Nov 20 date with a long day trying to crush the competition and punch my ticket for the 2012 championships in Kona which unfortunately have me sitting out the May ZuZoo trip also :(
That and the fact that I still need to get a new front drive (aka "prop") shaft built.

Any tod trooper front prop shafg will work. That is where my current one came from. Can't rebuild our shafts, took it to a driveshaft specialist;(

I am looking to go custom...more beef and ditch the cv.
Marlin
09/15/2011, 02:36 PM
Why? You aren't locked. Last I heard, you had an axle sitting in your garage for a SAS:)
I have never had a problem with the prop shaft other than the diffdrop changing the angle and tearing a boot. Mud got into the CV=toast.
So if you haven't diff dropped, no front locker, why spend the $$$ on a custom?

Probably not much more $$$ and eliminate the cv. That 44 will be sitting for a while. Lots of parts to collect and dollars to get the job done right.

Im still in. I would like to remind that a cb od some form is a MUST. Cell phones do not work in a lot of places out there. For safety and convenience, u really need one.
