View Full Version : After the VehiCROSS what ?

For the last couple of weeks my brain has being wondering about what can be a decent replacement whenever is time to give up the VX in the future ?

As far as i concern theres few SUV's that may,i mean may be a good candidate to become my next ride.

I must admit that the hummer H2 is my favorite vehicule, but many sees the H2 as a symbol of personal ego and arrogance and that's not my personality and hate the idea that people could judge me because of it.

My 2nd choice is definately a hot rod so the trailblazer SS & the grand cherokee SRT-8 comes to mind, because the porsche cayenne turbo S is not a option at all ( $$$$$ ) :o

So i took the time to test drive both, the cherokee is a bit faster, but the SS has more room. The SS can be found for cheaper then the SRT-8 but i must admit the cherokee looks way much sporty then the SS but what i hate is the cheap looking interior of both SUV's (IMO)

My 3rd option is a true 4x4 .....jeep wrangler but i can't deny my self,i like the VW Touareg V8,the 2002 BMW X6 with the especial 4.6L 325hp and the 2011 ford edge sport edition with its 305 hp

I haven't test neither of these ones, but sooner then later i will

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 will fall apart if you try to take it off road. Don't even go there unless your p***s is really really tiny. A regular Grand Cherokee is ok as a starting point. I was considering a Wrangler Sahara until I found my VX. BMW X6 (as above) would be fun if you have money burning holes in all your pockets. I would think for all around on and off road capability you will need to find a used Lamborghini LM002 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_LM002) :D

Or another VX.

Probably a BMW F800GS. I think that's about as much fun to drive.

I'm with Jo, it's hard to imagine life after the VX. We are looking hard at options in the post-Axiom era since it's a real possibility that the engine is blown (or about to be). Unfortunately the need for cargo room and the wife's demand for good fuel economy are driving us towards a Subaru Outback (which is still a VERY nice car - and it has 8.7" of ground clearance!) but I'd really like one of these:

http://media.ed.edmunds-media.com/pictures/VEHICLE/2009/Infiniti/2009.infiniti.fx35.20233973-E.jpg

You can pick up a loaded 2009 model (first year of the current body style) for a little over $30K. To me the FX35 is the best design and best value in the luxury sport-crossover market.

I'm with Jo on this one. What is "after"??

I've had my '70 Torino for 33 years, my '82 Mustang for 21 years, and my VX for 10 years. It's still my "youngest" vehicle! I think you will be prying it out of my cold, dead fingers. Next? Pffffttt!

Agreed I will not be parting with my VX for any foreseeable reason. I will probably get a second car in a year or two as economical backup. Something sensible like a used Lotus Elise :D

That F800GS was pretty boring to ride IMO. Triumph dealer has two as service loaners...

Unless I total (i.e. roll it) the VX, I plan on keeping it forever. There is nothing out there that picts my interest that will do the stuff I want/like to do in it. If the unimaginable (well maybe not to some that have witnessed my offroading) happens I will probably buy a well built older toyota truck (on tons and 40's) that I can wheel the snot out of and drive it home afterwards.

I wouldnt want an X6. It doesnt do anything very well. For that price I would get a nice used AWD car for on road and a beater for a trail rig.

I recently said farewell to me VX and got inyo a 2005 Infiniti FX35. Since I can't/don't do any off roading, it was a great move on my part....

There is just NO comparison in the ride between full frame (VX) and uni-body construction (FX)... plus, I love the Nissan V6 engine.

I hope I don't have to think about replacing the VX for a loooong time. I looked at Grand Cherokees in years past, but every time I checked out a used one I got that "all used up / never been maintained" vibe. I'd consider an FJ Cruiser. I recently saw the Trail Teams Edition - love that Army Green.

Another VX would still be at the top of my list.

It depends on what I can afford when that time comes & what my wants & needs dictate especially if gas is $6 a gallon by then.

I was diggin the H4 Concept...but, that won't happen!

If I part with her in the next 5 years and gas is still reasonable and I'm still stuck here in the snowbelt region, I could see me in a Ford Raptor....possibly a used one.

If I can't swing that purchase...possibly a decked out FJ Cruiser either new or slightly used. I only like them when they are seriously modded though. Stock ones are a dime a dozen around here. Possibly a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon modded or G.C. but, quite soured on Jeeps since my G.C. had quality issues as well as my brother's '04 G.C.

If I ever get to move out of this god-for-saken snow belt (retirement or job loss) and possibly move to California or Florida....I could see myself tooling around in only one vehicle and it would more than likely be a musclecar or Corvette. I really like how today's technology allows you to own a daily driver that is in the 400 to 500 hp range and yet is totally civilized for day to day living. It just doesn't handle snowstorms!

But, I had the VX's rocker panels restored and now have her chassis oiled spring & fall so that day may be prolonged out alot further into the future!

RE: Forester

Sadly, it's a Forester that Bushwacker did for SEMA. The fender flares and hood scoop are a one-off. I frequent Subaru forums and the Forester crowd has been going ape-!@#$ since this unveiling. They want those goods BAD. Contact with Bushwacker stated that the flares and scoop molds were destroyed after the initial build. Damned shame. WOnder if they kick themselves in the pants for it after all the demand.

I'd imagine it's more of a contract issue, to prevent unauthorized copies. Can't imagine what liability would be involved in keeping the mold. Going into production woul require a lot more testing to be sure it will work in the real world.

I have to say, Gussie, I never found a good replacement for my VX... that's why I started building my own concept. While that is in progress tho, I had to buy something, so I got a Trailblazer LTZ for cheap. It is very pedestrian but it is very practical in comparison & I am still the fastest in snow storms. You can even lift them & some came with a 5.3 & stouter rear axle with a locker! Look up the rarest of them, the North Face Edition. Nothing has the personality of a VX tho...

I originally purchased our vx for a surprise for my wife. She drove it the first year until my lifted ZR2 Chevy S-10 died (@250K). At the time, with a growing family, we needed vehicles with more doors. So I started searching for a new daily driver for our family. I was staying in the small SUV catagory.

My wife let go of the keys to the VX.
Since then our vx has been one of my daily drivers. So what to replace the VX with?

Well I would have to say..... Another VX.... Most of us have gone to the extreme to put a vx in the driveway.
