I've decided the cheapest way out is to replace my engine myself. I've rebuilt an engine before. I have about three ways.
1) pull mine, have it cleaned and machined, trust the machinist to mic it right for me and tell me what size bearings and rings etc to get. total cost <2000.00
2) Buy a quality rebuilt long block: 3300 to 3800.00
3)Or this - and I like this- I can get a BRAND NEW short block for 1500 and 2 remanufactured heads for 700.00 and gaskets for about 400.00. Total maybe 2700.00. See this link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ISUZU-TROOPER-AXIOM-ENGINE-3-5-NEW-SHORT-BLOCK-6VE1-/380360272785?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AIsuzu&hash=item588f3d2b91

What would you do? Is there a risk I don't see in buying this short block? Anything I do has risk..... :)

There is a 4) My mechanic will do a Jasper engine for about 5K $$$.

I'ill go with option # 3 if i were you.

But i looking beyond rebuilding my engine spring season next year,my desire is to get a V8 in my horse so from this weekend i'll start my quest for info about a possible V8 swap.

The DOHC 4.0L engine from the 2001 Oldsmobile aurora is the one.

This engine is rated @ 250hp and our transmission is likely to handle the additional 35 horses this engine comes with.

Transmission bell housing is almost identical, the hardest work is the ECU and re-locating the starter according to this info :

http://myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson/trooper/auroraSwap.html.

Gonna take this to my mech later this afternoon.

That is a very interesting web page and like you indicate bolting it in would be easier to me than messing with the engine harness. Your plan would require a new harness, ;eeky; and motor mounts ??? etc. But "more power to you" let us know if you do it!!!!
