View Full Version : Glasspacked the VX....Sounds like garbage =/

I thought the cherry bomb glasspack things would be a cheap way to give me a bit of sound that I wanted. It was just a cheap way to get off the stock muffler and make me embarrassed of how my car sounds. It's terrible! Hahahaha. Anyways, Ima try to get a flowmaster super 40 on sometime soon because I saw some videos from someone on here and liked the way that sounded. Glasspacks on the VX....not the greatest idea I've had lol.

Flowmaster Super 40 ...

I've had one for about 4 years now...starts off a little LOUD..

...but has mellowed to a nice growl.

Anyone know of any Flowmaster Super 40 equipped VX sound files/videos posted anywhere?

I looked up a few vids on YouTube, but the closest vehicles I found to a VX were some Toyota pickups and a Jeep Liberty, and my VX would have to sound better than those for me to ever consider making such a switch.

I actually ended up ordering the super 44....much of a difference?

I posted a video of my old VX with a suPer 40 on youtube. Just search for my user name: Silverbullet75

Also, the Super 44 is considerably louder than the 40.

I currently run the Cherrybomb Vortex. LOVE IT.

gonna say, my Magnaflow growls real nice...burbles on the overrun too....it started out a bit....I don't know....droned a bit maybe....but few months and that just aged right away,,,I get compliments on the sound all the time. From Europeans more than anything.
You'll enjoy the Flowmaster....the two are pretty comparable

Thanks Silver. Nice work on that shifter interlock issue too.

Will the 44 be like obnoxiously loud? Specifically in the cabin?

Does anyone on here have the Flowmaster Super 44???

JoFotoz

Yup..I do.

Does anyone on here have the Flowmaster Super 44???

My bad, I thought it was a Super 40...its not.
Its a Super 44, Black Diamond plate ...1 in/2 out.

I love it...its plumbed for dual exhaust exit, one either side.

Was kind of loud when first fitted and in fact
I got stopped by the Police one time for noise.

Its mellowed now, nice rumble IMO, and gets quieter as you accelerate/go faster.

Its all a subjective thing...ya either like a growl..or not.

:p

So Jo, the 44 quiets down over time and mellows out a bit? Some kinda break in period of sorts?

Yea it seems to...

...I guess the baffles get some soot/carbon whatever on 'em and the new pipes too.

I didnt mind its sound right out of the box...

..but I actually prefer it now.

If i had the technology I'd do a sound bite for ya...but I'm a ludite :o

That's the same one I've got and I think that's my favorite part of it. Can drone a bit on the highway, but I love it everywhere else.

Anyone still have Borla? Ldub was the last person here that confirmed. Just know I love that deep gurgle on start, low rumble on cruising, and deep "braaaap" on acceleration. Think Ldub finally got rid of his recently for a flowmaster or some such.

Yep, the ol' Borla puked out some of it's packing & had a nasty rattle due to internal baffling coming loose.

Replaced it with a Dyno Max Super Turbo & am WELL pleased with the reduction in cabin noise & overall reduction in exhaust note.
She still has a fairly loud growl on acceleration, just not as much, which makes the supercharger whine all the more noticeable...:yesgray:

Same. I have always run Borla on my Subes. Borla CB plus Cobb downpipe equals magic.

+1 on the Magnaflow. I had a muffler shop temporarily attach a flowmaster and let me listen. Then do the same with the magnaflow. Gotta say I liked the sound of the magnaflow better, and I've always been a flowmaster guy. I like them on a V8, but just not a big fan on V6s.
My VX makes me think of an Infiniti G35 when I hear it with the Magnaflow on it.

I have Glasspacks on mine had em on there for about 6 months at first it sounded horrible, Now i really like the sound of it especially when you accelerate

My Powervault still sounds great - getting a bit of rust though at the attachment points (especially the tip)...

Jo, how long was your 44 on before it mellowed out a bit? Is this something that happens pretty quickly or is this a several month long thing? Is it just due to carbon build up on the inside of the muffler or something like that? I'm not really familiar with how muffler work in detail. I just know a bit about rapid expansion and compression of the gasses. I've noticed that after just a week the glass pack has mellowed out some....I still detest the sound of the glasspack though. Acceleration also seems to have been reduced over stock

I'm thinking this depends on how much you drive it...

I only put about 3000 miles a year on the VX.

As far as I recall...it took about 3 months to mellow, and that included a drive of 1800 miles to Moab and back.

So..maybe 2000-2500 miles and it was good.
But thats all very subjective ....noise wise!
