Our stock muffler and tailpipe haven't been available for many years now. Lots of mufflers will fit, but you have to get a custom bent tailpipe and tip.
Find a good shop that does custom exhaust work. Here's what I did almost two years ago and it's still rock solid and quiet.
I actually wanted a whole new system from the manifolds to the tip and was willing to drop $1000 to do it. I told the guy I wanted to replace everything and be done with it for years to come. He looked at it and said everything upstream of the Y looked great and there's no need to replace anything. A new muffler, a custom bent stainless tailpipe, and a polished tip would do it. $345 out the door. http://www.wtv-zone.com/markg/mags/mags2/deal.gif
They did a great job! It's so quiet now! :yesy:

A flowmaster Super 44 has a real nice rumble.
You can get single in/single out...or single in/double out.
I have the 'double out' going to twin tailpipes.
Any good Exhaust shop can do the 'plumbing".

You'll get a lot of differing opinions here, but in the end it depends on what you want to hear (and where and when you want to hear it).
I've got an AeroTurbine and LOVE the way it sounds outside the VX pretty much throughout the RPM range. But I'll admit I'm not too thrilled with the droning INSIDE the cabin at around 2200-2500 RPM. It's kinda boomy and I'm investigating dampening options.
Gussie2000, on the other hand, has twin dynomax super turbos and they sound damn near stock on startup and idle and "normal" driving - but get on it a little bit and they growl like mad.
If I had it to do over again - which I may if I can't sort out this droning - then I'd seriously consider those.

I have a dynomax turbo. Its sounds pretty good & is cheap. I used the stock piping & just had the muffler welded in.
Jo's setup is my favorite. I'll probably do something similar someday.

Alas, look no further Mate!!! Click-on the "link" below for the absolute perfect set-up. A dual-pipe output system (complete with dual chrome tips) using a single DynoMax Turbo Muffler (1-inlet; 2-outlet) made specifically for our 3.5 Isuzu engine and is available from Summit Racing. It will be my next set-up if (errrr; when) my OEM set-up falls off onto the street like yours has done. See "link" below, and get ready to immediately call Summit Racing with your credit card info!!!

How is this made for our 3.5? There was never a vehicle with our engine available with dual tail pipes. The pipes that come with this kit certainly will not bolt up in the vx. The 3.5 referenced in the description of that setup is a chevy inline 5 available on the colorado and the rebadged isuzu I-mark pickups with the same motor. Nowhere in the application list of that kit is there a 6 cylinder engine or a V configuration. The muffler might fit, but the rest of the pipes would likely be useless or worse, confusing to the installers. Not to mention that kit is over $200 higher than buying the muffler by itself. My advice to Erik would be put your credit card away and look further.

This thread talks about getting Borla to offer a cat back system for the VX.

Unfortunately, I haven't made it down to Johnson City yet. There are a few members who are closer than I so maybe we can sweet talk one of them to stopping by.

X2...
Been VERY happy with my choice of DynoMax Super Turbo (#17747 - 1 in/1 out)
Just as Ven described...almost as quiet as stock at idle & moderate acceleration, but barks pretty good when you put your foot in it...
No drone at highway cruising speed.

If you end up getting any custom pipe work done, better read up on this thread from "rickshaw" so you know what to ask and avoid, etc....
