View Full Version : Should I buy a 98 Rodeo as a parts car?

Hey,

I have a lead on a '98 Rodeo (3.5?) w/ 178,XXX miles on it. I am looking to have something for backup if the motor in my VX ever keels over. My question is, are there enough compatable parts to make this worthwhile? or is this a bad idea?

Thanks,

You would be better off with a Trooper if you want interchangeable parts. The front suspension is more narrow on a Rodeo so you can't use the half shafts in the VX. Also, I'm pretty sure the 98 Rodeos had a Dana 44 rear axle on leaf springs. Personally, I don't think its worth buying an entire parts car for an engine that you can easily buy separately & how good will the engine be with 178,000 miles. Just a thought.

Wow, that was quick (I love this board)...

Makes perfect sense, I'll probably let it slide then...

Thanks again

I agree with this. Could probably buy a lower mileage engine separately for a cheaper price than buying this whole truck.

Is that a collective sigh I just heard from all of your neighbors? :)

I'm sure my neighbors would just love to see a junk car in my yard slowly disappearing over the course of 3-5 years.

ROFL

But I ain't got no HOA to worry about. At least I get to keep the RV at the house.

Would have been my mom's neighbors actually... drop it off, and drop by when I need something. :P
