Yeh, I'm a booyotch for being such a tease...but...:slap: you...

I'm in the process of re-working the hood scoop/insert...:smack:

My last attempt was less than a stunning success, so I done decided to take a "do-over"

First off, I always thought my hood scoop was about the right length, fore & aft, but not wide enough to suit my eye.

Soooooooo...the logical thing to do would be to widen it, yah?...:yesgray:

I waltzed it by the table saw @ work, then sectioned in a piece of plastic from the underside, bonded together with PC plastic epoxy, held together temp w/ screws, since the holes would be filled in the next few steps.

http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/DSC020571.JPG

As can be seen, after sectioning in the center section, it's been back filled with several layers of FG cloth/resin, then kitty hair.

BTW...when cleaning old adhesives etc from your project, always have plenty of ventilation...otherwise...

http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/DSC02051.JPG

Anyhoo. @ this point in time, I have it widened by 2", & epoxied to the hood.

Am starting the build up/blending, using F-G mat & epoxy resin, then gonna sand/smooth everything out with kitty hair, & eventually cover the whole thing in CF.

Maybe more after tomorrow...:smilewink

I will say that most of my fears of TOTALLY squirrely handling in the slippy stuph, weren't as bad as reality. Yeh, she gets a little more sideways, but not too bad.

ugh... hood scoop projects. I worked on my hood scoop last winter and it took forever because the fiberglass & finishing work was endless. I went with a WRX reverse hood scoop for heat extraction (like yours) & ended up Line-X-ing the hood insert to give it a finished look.

I've always liked your hood scoop but a little width will be a nice touch. I'll be interested in seeing the final pics with it mounted to the hood insert.

The arrow portion is gonna be inlaid into the CF with 1/8" aluminium, & will continue back to form the "floor" of the naca duct.

Real CF or 3M vinyl CF?

I'm using this epoxy resin...http://www.ebay.com/itm/EPOXY-RESIN-CRYSTAL-CLEAR-HIGH-PERFORMANCE-96-OZ-KIT-/310131342540?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483544bccc

Check some of the links within their page for some great tips..(at least they were great for a noob like me)

And this method of application...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rTWaV1imzs

With liberal wet sanding & a couple coats of uv clear coat to finish.

You're the one adding carbon fiber...on top of fiberglass... on top of a big metal hood. At least the top layer of your hood will be light weight. Weird-O

I'm just kidding, it should look very nice. Unless of course you screw it up  :_beer:

Now the GOOD news...:yesgray:

Due to the fact that I have a few friends around here, John (Rowhard) being one of the bestus...

I had a "plan B" to fall back on. After I F U B A R'd about $65.oo in REAL cf, I remembered that John had sent me (just cuz...for free, whatta guy) a good sized hunk of black fiberglass fabric.
Same 2x2 twill as cf, just a bit stiffer in the drape/flexibility dept.

John, ya saved the ol' dubsters bacon today...:thanx:
Actually, thanks isn't enough...

THANK YOU!!!

At the least, I'll always have a F'd-up piece of cf to remind me to slow down & maybe even ask for some help once in a while...or not...:slap:
