Check out what they're experimenting with, using an Ironman VX! I think a driverless car would be much safer than a car with a texting teenager, drinking Starbucks and applying makeup:

It's official. What's old (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d84UMysNzxw) really is what's new.

Sounds like it was wildly successful in its autonomy. From that thread:
Some of you may have seen the NOVA special about the Great Robot Race:

Yes, that's our VX in the amusing section ;ooo; ... the VX detects the parked car and picks the wrong side (left) quickly slamming on the brakes in a panic to avoid the concrete barrier. That was at the qualifying event in the semi-finals... we didn't make it to the race.
Somebody should totally call that company and ask to buy the cross bars. :laughy:

I have pics of the DARPA VX from the mini meet I had with them after the first DARPA competition :)

In previous DARPA competitions, they had LADARs mounted up there for terrain mapping so I don't think they'll be willing to sell them.

The nice thing about the DARPA VX is everything they added is removable and all original parts were saved so the VX can be returned to its original state.
