Jo, so glad you'll be there even if the Whore can't make it.

It always surprises me, and I don't know why because this is one of the best bunch of people around, at the generosity of everyone here. It doesn't surprise me, however, that Gill and Cece offered to pick you up. Those two epitomize the term "good people".

See you Sunday.:dan_ban:

Hiya Larry...

Jo,
Is the ORW back on the road again?

The ORW is not talking to me...

...somebody told her I drove a jeep for two days.

She's pissed!

Gonna have to buy her new shoes, probably a new outfit and no doubt ....

....some elective surgery to her rear end .... just to placate her !

Right now she's pushing me around town in 2wd...the rear 4:77 third is a mess...

...blown bearing, chipped gears...general destruction

Will start looking for 'the cure' next week....

Jo,

Can you give an explaination of what exactly happened and how you think it can be avoided? I have a pair of 4.77s here for my VX, and I do not want them to blow up!!

Bart

...as soon as I figure it out!

Early diagnosis is tending towards...

Damaged Pinion bearing.

( garage that helped..#well..I helped them!#... made an error..
moved VX without rear seal/nut or drive shaft.....causing rear pinion
to rotate out of alignment, and the diff to lock up...very possibly
damaging pinion bearing)

Overtightened pinion nut on new crush washer.

Unbalanced rear drive shaft, causing seals to blow.

CSI ( catastrophic immobility investigation)...continues!

To be safe though Bart.......
.....best thing for you to do...

...is send me yours :p

Jo

If I wanted to make you really jealous, i would send you a photo of the two pairs I have sitting on my garage floor right now. ;)

One pair is going in the VX, and the other pair is going in the 91 with ARBs, hopefully.

So wow, lots of stuff to consider installing these, not just as simple as putting them in and being done. I thought the rear though was the easy one and the front one is the tricky one where you have to adjust the backlash, etc with that new crushwasher...???

Jo

I guess that shop has never done diff work before??
Some pretty basic mistakes.

Bart, the amount of work depends on if you have complete differentials, or just gear sets.
And then, if you have complete diffs, are you willing to install them without changing the bearings.
As soon as you disturb the bearings and gear sets, you have to go through the whole rigamoral of setting up the mesh and backlash, and then setting the preload on the pinion bearings.

Easy to do when you know what you are doing, but rocket science if you don't.

PK

Yea, they have...but:-

I guess that shop has never done diff work before??

...they dont specialize in it.

Should of been very easy...

Two, fully set up 3rd members...ready to plug and play.

I'm in contact with Jerry Lemond (Isuzu Guru who built them) and the seller he built them for......

.....and we are all tending to think the pinion bearing was damaged when it was rolled off the ramp temporarily.

This is good and bad...

Bad...I still need to find new 4:77 ring and pinion

Good....the garage guys are cool, and will make good if this is the real problem.

JBTW ..PK...I hope ya make it next year...I now have a good contact in Moab...

..for fully locked jeep rubicon () rental...without lots of trail restriction!

Cause ya gotsta drive a couple o'trails!

I'll part with the info if you cross my palm ...
...with an abundance of CHEESE twisties!

Jo, cheese twisties I can manage, its the air fare that hurts.

But I will be there if I am still above ground and fit enough.

I have to work out the options for flying into USA and hope I can tag a ride with someone that travels a bit of distance to get to Moab.
Then I get to see a bit more of the countryside, and share the costs with someone else.
Heck, I have about 11 months to plan this, I must have 50% chance of getting it right.
