Hey Jo....let me look into it....I think we can do it.....of course we can't do the wrenching, but maybe you could pay them to remove it?
If they can get it out and it's good, I can get it shipped or we'll figure something out to get it to you.

Hey Jo,

I'm planning on being in SD 7/15 - 7/16. Maybe if you can get the parts to Vegas and are willing to pay for a one way U-haul trailer ride (approx $50 to rent the trailer) I can bring it with me? I'm not worried about strain on the VX as the trailer would be practically empty.

Just trying to help ya out anyway I can! I'd hate to see you pay $$$$ for shipping if you don't have to.

The 3rds are small enough to fit in the back of the VX so you shouldn't have to rent a uhaul. ;)

Gotta love the Forum, always someone willing to help. Way to go Sue & Nova!!!

...and I hope you get the gears Jo. :)

Whoever ends up doing this, I will make it worth your while as well.

I'd be interested in the black dash if these parts are in good shape (no cracks or chips in the black material) I will pay the yard whatever they charge for it, plus give $100 to whoever can pick it up and ship it to me. This is the last piece of the puzzle for my black interior swap into my 91 Trooper.

PM me if interested in a little work for some extra cash.

OK!!..thanks for all the offers!

The yard is going to get back to me today, hopefully they will pull the 3rd..
...and if so, I'll try and get them to strip it down and just ship the bits I need.

Sue..THANKS...lets see what the yard can do first:thumbup:

Kirk..THANKS.. Ditto the above!

Nova..THANKS..As explained by Jon (vxorado), no trailer required

Bart..I'll talk to them about the Dash when they call me, and call you if its good.

Fingers crossed, and MANY thanks for all the offers.

If its a gen-u-ine 4.77........

Sure..

Let us know how much they charge you for the thirds. Be interesting to know an approximate going rate.

Here's a couple of Historical values :-

Pair of 4.77 3rds...no lockers...$850

Pair of 4.77 3rds..Aussie Lockers in both.....$1350

Note..these were basically plug and play..ready to go...
....so not scrap yard prices.

Most scrap yards will sell thirds for about $80 each. Ask me how I know. :)

OK dumb question. Since 4.77 are soo hard to come by could you not get one and have a shop make duplicates? I will be in the market for 4.77s and wondering if this is a viable option in the future. That is if I ever get my hands on a 4.77

I have talked extensively with Matt Brown about the difficulty in getting gears made, such as 5.38s. Making hypoid gears is not easy, takes a specialty shop and is VERY expensive for small batches. Matt is looking at a $30K minimum investment to get a run of gears made if the tooling is already in place, more if not.

What he said. This isn't as simple as just pumping out duplicates. You have hardened steel and precision instrumentation and all that. It would be cool though, I would love 5.38s in my 91.

I looked into it too....
But as stated here already...$$$$$$$$$'s ..

Yard is busy, they havent had time to check it yet..

And yes Bart...thats a GREAT price,..I hate you :p

Yeah, that's how it was with the two yards I worked with. I was just patient and tried to not get pushy. ;)

And Jo, if and when you do talk to them, and if you are willing to see if they have the black dash, make sure they understand that ANY cracks or dings in the black material means no go for me. I already have 3 dashes sitting in my garage, and they are all blemished in one way or another. So I am only looking for a very clean one without damage. Obviously, price is the next question. And if you don't have the time, no worries, I will call them when you are done getting the 3rds. Thanks.

No need to check the data plates. If it is an '89 RS, it has 4.77s. I have never seen or heard of an '89 RS without 4.77s. It was the standard package when these vehicles were released here.

Now, if you can find out if these vehicles are actually RS Troopers, please PM me the locations if you don't mind. I have no interest in the 4.77s, but I really need a clean, damage free black dash panel. Worst case, if you wouldn't mind asking them for me over the phone, about the dashes, I would be mighty grateful.

Brother Jo first one I find is for you second is for myself. Your the one that needs it the most as your Truck is kaput till you get one. It would be selfish of me to take something for myself when someone else needs it more. Keeping it would be plain greed. Get my drift :D ?? On adhuntr...

Search "isuzu 4.77" "isuzu gears" "isuzu 477"

Finding 4.77s on craigslist is like finding a flying man-bear-pig unicorn. Reason being, most people who know they have 4.77s use the planet to post them for sale. That's why I wanted to tell Jo ASAP after finding them yesterday morning. The only other time I saw 4.77s on craigslist was for a set that was also posted on the planet and scooped up quickly.

In other words, the Planet classified section is the best place for hard to find stuff. :)

89 Trooper
RS Trooper
Two dr trooper
Trooper Snowflake

...etc!

Its a real lottery as it just depends how the seller describes stuff.

Jo,

vt_mav sent me a link to an 89 Trooper on CL in my neck of the woods. I just called about it. The guy knows nothing about the truck other than it has a 6 cyl engine, 5 speed tranny & 4WD. He didn't even know if it was a 2 door until he stepped outside to look (it's a 4 door). From what I've read, since it's a 4 door it doesn't have the 4.77s you're looking for - correct?

JoFotoz
06/28/2012, 01:03 PM
Hi Tom

There seems to be conflicting views on this :o

Some say 2 dr only, others include 4 door.

If its a 4 door with 4.77's the manufacturers plate under the hood
should have option code 6NZ on it...as far as I know!

Is this a whole vehicle, or for parts.

Thanks
