Just curious to see if anyone has tried to Cut a couple coils off of OME 919 springs to use on a stock height VX?

Yes.
I cut the 919s after installing the body lift so I could bring the VX down a little bit. Works just fine for pavement but I had significant issues this year in Moab with the coil springs unseating because they don't have enough spring length.
I just borrowed a set of stock coil springs from Mdwyer and installed them yesterday with a 1" spacer. I'll be buying them from Mdwyer if they fix the problem.
My chopped 919s might be available if you want to test them out before cutting your good springs.

Interesting!
Cool.
How did it feel on-road?

The same. Maybe a little stiffer because I cut out some of the progressive coil springs.

Cool.
I'll let you know!
Thank you!

Have you looked into the 913s? They are 40mm shorter than the 919s (unsprung), and are intended as a zero lift spring for Troopers. Same wire diameter as the 919s.

Oh.. I thought the 913s were a lift, stiffer than 912s.
I think Rowhard used them in his VX.

They are stiffer than 912s (should be about as stiff as 919s), and they may result in some lift on a VX, don't know. On a Trooper they are zero lift...but the rear end of a VX is a lot lighter than a Troopers.

Please don't cut springs.....

The 913s will give about 1.75" of lift on the VX. I just installed mine earlier this year. I love them!

I agree, the 913s are a good option.

Cutting springs is the "redneck" way to TRY to make a vehicle work. I'm no engineer (I just play one on TV:bwgy:), but cutting anything more than 1/2 a wind off a spring, ESPECIALLY a progressive spring, totally changes its performance characteristics - NEVER for the better!
If you take the time to study the data that IS available on each and every spring, you should be able to make a pretty good educated "guess" at how it's going to perform in your given application. Apparently there are a number of choices out there for the VX - take your time and do your homework!

I think Rowhard used them in his VX.
No me. Only mod was Rancho's and torsion bar crank to help the wheel/tire fit.

Sorry Rowhard, mixed up the names.
Guys, I have already done the research on the available options for the VX. (that's why I'm using 919s on my lift). All of the OME springs LIFT the VX. The question is for a STOCK height VX. I'm actually asking this with another person's VX in mind. There are no aftermarket options for stock height. That's why I'm asking about cutting 919s.. Or even the expedition version.
I'm going to order some 913s right now!

Despite what others say about cutting the springs, it worked fine for me. I don't see any issue with cleaning cutting a ring or two off the 919s. Just don't use a blow torch because the heat will ruin the springs. Band saw works great. :)
I also looked into the other options when trying to get the perfect ride height. I found Moog makes coil springs that should fit the VX. There's a wide range of heights & different spring rate. I believe we need a coil springs with tangential & square ends.

I was planning on test fitting a few of them before I decided it was a lot less time, effort, and money to cut the coil springs and move on to the next project.

You can also get custom springs wound to your specs; it ain't that expensive either...

Anyone know the stock spring rates?
