Can I get these on the standard 18" wheels without adding a lift? Maybe just cut off a little cladding?

EDIT: Tire fits on the wheel just fine... but you WILL need a lift.

Thanks!
But if I need to lift i midaswell put 30's or bigger on if I'm going ot put all of that work in right?
275's fit without a lift, 285 need a lift? With a lift you can fit 33's!
Suggestion?

Someone posted up that General Grabber AT2 has a size that will fit without a lift. It was like a 32" tire.

There's many more threads with the info you want, not just that one recent thread.

In a nutshell...WITHOUT a lift, I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers, 285/60-18s on OEM 18s, with a small triangle trimmed from the front outer wheel well. Note ...I have the 60s, not 65s.

Also, FYI...VXer "jeeperkate" just bought those Trail Grapplers. Check out her gallery as well. She also did a thread with details on it, and what she did to get them to fit. Search her posts, you'll find it...or search "Trail grappler", you'll find it that way too.

On the Nitto Site I only see 65's! Where can I find these 60's?

I'm purchasing these same tires this week. I hope I bought the right size as I don't want to cut any cladding.

Yes, you can "squeeze" the 285/65R18 onto the OEM 18x7 rim with no problems. The 285 series width is the widest tire to still fit onto the 7" wide rim.

However, you WILL have to crank the front torsion bars for the 285/65R18 tires to clear the front wheel-wells and turn freely. The OEM rear wheel-wells are fine without any modification as there is gobs of extra space in the rear wheel-wells. Your interfence problems will be solely limited to the front wheel-wells, so front TB cranks and front cladding trim will be mandatory when using the very stout 285/65R18 size tire.

With only some "creative" front cladding trim, you can easily install 275/70R18 (33" O.D.) onto a 100% Stock OEM VX without any lifting whatsoever if using the OEM 18x7 rims. The narrower 275 series have less of a swing arc than the slightly wider 285 series. The "swing arc" is where the VX has problems with handling oversized tires inside the tightly cramped front wheel-wells. The wider the tire, the greater increase in swing arc, and thus increased front wheel-well interference when turned.

Don't you have to torque the back and equal amount?

I assume by torque, you mean adjust the torsion bars. If so, then no. Torsion bars are only on front. For lift in back, you need replacement coils or coil spacers.

Don't forget that you need a front end alignment after you crank the torsion bars.

Also remember that one member took his in for a front end alignment and they relaxed his torsion bars in the process so make sure you tell them that you adjusted them for lift.
