I don't like either of them. One has Sesame Street's Big Bird's footie prints on it and the Commando Camo version brings back bad memories of the VT shooting. Pitiful.

White Out Day supports Coach Beamer's "Herma's Readers" charity, which seeks to encourage reading among school children (it's named after his mother who was a life long teacher). Each year they make up a different t-shirt to sell in the bookstores and a new "throwback" helmet that's auctioned after the game. So more than likely the helmet you see there is a reincarnation of something that was done originally in the 70s, when I think we can all agree style was shall we say, out of style. :) Btw I don't think anyone understands why the school chose "White Out" as a theme given that we don't have white as a school color (Penn State is a much better example IMHO) but at least it's for a good cause.
The camo theme is actually pretty common, Maryland and a few other schools have worn camo uniforms over the past few years, and two years ago we wore Nike Pro Combat uniforms that used the "tech camo" pattern but incorporated the school colors rather than traditional drab olive, brown, etc. These uniforms might be auctioned off to support the Wounded Warrior project but I'm not sure. I agree they're not the most aesthetically pleasing but Tech has a long and proud cadet history (we have the most Congressional Medal of Honor winners behind only West Point) so wearing camo to support the troops is a no-brainer for us.
Another thing to keep in mind is that when you get to be a popular program you pretty much stop paying for uniforms since Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Riddell, Champion, etc. just give them to you for advertising. So to a certain degree I'm sure the school doesn't have much control over the designs.
Thanks for the heads up Earl, hadn't seen that yet.
