Looks like it makes your VX a shape-shifter.

I'm sure it is, just wishing there were less blurry pics so we can appreciate it more. What wrap did you use? I heard 3M was discontinuing the Di-Noc stuff that PNW used.

i will take better pictures this weekend. i scratched the camera on my iphone. i used the 3m. i decided to do the wrap in order to keep the original porton yellow intacts.

maybe i am missing something? is the entire vehicle wrapped in vinyl tape?

vt_maverick

At least the body if not the cladding. Notice you can still see the Proton on the door jams.

yes except the cladding... just something different i tried out

I would love to see some better pictures. Very cool idea getting the whole thing wrapped in CF.

Didn't mean that previous comment to be critical, just pointing out how you can tell it's the same VX. Do you think it's possible to do the door jams with wrap or do you think you'll have to paint them black or gray? Seems like wrap could be difficult to apply well around the hinges and locks.

Oh I understood. Wrap would be to hard. I'm actually going to see how plack plasti dip works out. That stuff looks like it will do the job

Is this the 3m DiNoc stuff? I've got a sheet of it in the garage waiting to go on the hood insert, but I'm wondering if I need to do something with the cracks, first.

looks cool i would really like to see more pics - there are a lot of trucks here in town that have the bottom half done in camo and i had always wondered if it was possible to do an entire vehicle - doesnt seem cheap though - you said you did it so you could go back to proton someday, so i have to ask how hard do you think it would be to take that stuff back off? seems like you would need a couple gallons of some type of paint safe goo gone

tribalvx

Mdwyer... Unfortunately the crack will show through. Too bad I didn't know beforehand lol. Yes it's 3m

And removing it if done slowly will be just time consuming and some goo gone.

Crud. I was hoping the texture would be enough to hide it. Thing is, if I'm going to slop up the insert with filler, it's gonna need new paint anyway... *sigh* What to do...? :)

From the one semi-good photo that you posted, it looks great! Did you do it yourself also?
I love the 3m Di-Noc... WHO said that 3m is discontinuing it? I know it doesn't recommend or warranty it for wrapping on autos, but I can still get it from Fellers. I only wrapped it to cover the peeling clearcoat crap areas, I would have like to do the whole VX, but don't NEED to yet.

I'm posting my photos as someone requested before. I have put it in some of the other spots like the hub caps and side of door frame as you can see.
My photos don't really do it justice either... I've had dudes take photos of it while driving. PHOTOS in MY Gallery

looks really cool - could our wheels be done like this?

tribalvx

You can carbon some rims, the stock ones have too harsh of angles with the center cap the way it sticks out. ( hope that made sense ). I just used plasti dip on my rims today to make them black. It looks pretty good and really easy to use.

The CF looks awesome.

Just a side note, i had a buddy spray plasti dip his TC wheels and they were very hardy. He has been driving em for about a year, including in the salt, snow and dirt of colorado winter. They still look great. Its all about good prep like any painting, wrapping, etc.

Do you think you could plasti-dip the cladding?

i used the spray now that i finally snatched a few cans from homedepot. its usually on back order. im also gonna use the plasti dip for the cladding (see how it turns out) and to get rid of some of the yellow in the seems.

wheels look really good - did you take the tires off the wheels to spray them or just tape them off?

My friend taped em. Plastidip is a liquid rubber material, kinda like a bedliner only thinner.
But it finishes like powdercoating.

I left the wheels on. Just taped up the rotors and brakes.

LUCAS OIL TRANNY FIX ADDITITVEL I have a lottop downstars running, with a full bottle of Lucas Oil Trasnmission Fix ready to put in the morning; it's sitting on the AC adapter which is HOT to pre-warm the solution as I undertstand it is thick. my 2nd/3rd gear bands/clutch packs are tour up; no metal was found in the pain, typical tiny priece at the magmet, what was in the pain was brown burnt smalling, very nasty, I washed it alll out and let ATF drip our for over a week, lots more came out; filled with 2 gallons and fired it up, ATF came pouring out of the DRIERS side of the radiator, the radiator's intercooler had let go, I knoew it wasn't the hoses, had to be a core; figired this would flush lines anyways; so not fitted up with new lines and radiator; variety of salvage yads in the area witht his commoin GM tranny, cheap and guaranteed; but first, what will LUCAS OIL TRANSMISSSION additive do? give me some temporary normal shifting? can it make things worse? Thanks, Erik

ive dipped tool handles before but never thought about using it for wheels or that it came in a can - much cheaper than powdercoating too im sure but im assuming that you would have to rough up the chrome surface of the wheels to get it to adhere? would be nice to just be able to peel it off and have the chrome safely underneath for when you wanna bling bling

Evillecutter.... that basically what i did . i wanted to keep the originally proton paint and chrome rims. so the carbon fiber is just a wrap and on the rims. itll stick as long as the surface is clean. after 4-5 coats of pasti dip. i can almost peel it off in one big piece...
youtube plasti dip... people are doing entire cars....
