View Full Version : Battery Light, ABS Light, No Power

As I was pulling out of the parking garage today after work. All of a sudden, the battery light and ABS light come on. Also, it is acting like it is in Winter mode when I take off (taking off in 4th).
So I figure wtf, I can deal with this, I'll force it to go into the right gear. I put it in 1st, everything seemed normal. But 2nd and 3rd didn't work. It went to 4th again. Also, about half way home, the battery light and ABS light went off, but power did not come back. Still feels like I'm driving a Ford Explorer. :)

Anyway, I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow, and I wondered if anyone had had this problem before so I could point them in the right direction.

Thanks

;wtf; I've got my .02c on battery. I've heard that the 2001 VX's sat on a dock in Japan for a few months then came to San Fran and sat a few more. Battery discharging the whole time

Problem was gone this morning. Guess my new VX auto repair system fixed the problem.

It's Gremlin's I tell ya', Gremlin's!!! Before you go to bed tonight, disconnect both battery terminals and let the VX sit overnight without a battery source. Then re-connect the battery in the morning to do a "re-set".

When mine did this it was a bad alternator.

Check the voltage, mine was putting out 17-20v when it happened

replace it yourself with a $100 dollar part.. 700 is theft.

Yea I just replaced one at work in a rodeo which is the same setup as ours. Total price was around 300 to the customer

are you kidding? its the same as the rodeo? now im mad i even asked if it was the same alternator as the trooper or rodeo i already told him to do it, now what

etlsport

It may be a different connector for the rodeo since it was newer (04) but installation is identical (0.9 hours). And I know for certain we share n alternator with the trooper and acura SLX

Call and tell them not to. Say your VX has AIDS and they won't touch it.

except the transmission is kicking into safe mode 1st gear and i cant drive it on the highway and not risking it doing that to me after i already towed it to there man i wish i would have looked here before

I don't think our transmissions have a safe mode... I've never heard of a limp home mode either, so either your transmission is slipping or your mode selection switch is non functional. Can anyone else shed light on the tranny safe mode bit?

Transmission actually will lock into 3rd gear in certain situations. Happens when the regulator in the alternator goes so system voltage is too high

Removing the serpentine belt will let you run off the battery directly but you can't go far, like that and you have no power steering, headlights or cooling fan.

Just replaced my alt in the VX...took less than a half hour. Very easy.
