Vendetta & I are going to meet up with Lizardmen3477 at a commuter lot in Baltimore County on the 29th to do some wrenching. It's an open invitation to any who may want to attend.
Our attack list is:
Window tilting issues
Shock absorber install
Nerf Bar install
Seat Slider install
Hub nut retainer screw replacement
Anything else we think we can handle in the time allotted (HD torsion bar install).
Tom
EDIT: Now meeting at AutoPros in Aberdeen @ 0900 so that we can talk to the Tech doing the build up of a 5.3L in a VX.
Their address is:

Did Welder Guy get a copy made of my nerf brackets?
tom4bren
09/17/2012, 03:59 PM
Not yet. I'm going to call him tonight to see if he can get them done before the meet.

NERF brackets are cut. He just needs to mill the slots, clean & paint. They'll be ready for the meet.
I'll have your brackets & VT emblem ready for next time we meet.

Cool, thanks Tom. Now I'll have to go back through my PMs to see who had second dibs (behind V) on my nerf bars.

I won't get Welder Guy spun up on any more till both Y'all dump yours.
Vendetta
09/18/2012, 02:08 PM
Mav, Buffy, are those bars or brackets you're looking to sell? Or both?
vt_maverick
09/18/2012, 02:20 PM
Both, that's why I was asking Tom about the brackets because I obviously need to get them back to sell the bars.
Vendetta
09/18/2012, 02:31 PM
Gotcha Mav.
Once the brackets are more readily available and you guys unload your bars, I'll volunteer another "definitive" thread like the safari bar (http://vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?t=22249) one from back when. There are some alternatives to the Luverne bars that might be helpful for those who want options.

In my case it is bars and brackets. Just haven't had time to list them. Shipping Will be a killer on these though.

Hence the hand delivery opportunity to 'V'. I don't even wanna know what shipping is gonna be on the upgraded hitch (hello Greyhound).

Slight change of plans for the meet. Rather than meeting in B'more, we are going to visit AutoPros in Aberdeen. They are the ones that are stuffing a 5.3L into a VX. I've already called them & they will be open from 0900 till 1400 on the 29th. They indicated that there shouldn't be any problem with us hanging in their parking lot for a cupla hours to do some wrenching.
EDIT: The tech doing the build is only available 0900-1000 so I've adjusted the meet time accordingly.

I think I goobered the poll by changing the time. Y'all will have to re-do.

Plan is still a go for me. I.can bring a 10x10 canopy if needed and if it is ok with autopros. My plan is to head down around 7am for an 830-9 arrival. My new car arrived this week, so i will need to leave around 1230 to go pick it up.
tom4bren
09/26/2012, 07:52 AM
Your call on the canopy. We can manage without.
I'll be rolling out around 0600 for the same arrival time. I'll prolly have to leave by 4PM.
Vendetta

I'm heading down Friday with an overnight in Jersey to break up the drive.
Canopy might not be a bad idea as we'll be working inside doors and doing an HID headlamp swap, if time allows.
See you guys there, should be there around 8ish.

I'd say a BFH and whatever might work on some seriously rusted out rear license plate light mounts. Was that a Philips head screw in there? It's just a clump of rust at this point. :eekgray:
Floor jack?
:_confused

I'm here, but took a secondary to a nearby Dunkin, embedded in a local Wal-Mart. Picking up a dozen for the crew.
Sorry I didn't see your message earlier, I wasn't forum-ing and driving. ;) See you guys soon.

Really great meeting you guys down in MD yesterday. Seeing all the VX's there, each with its own flavor, really drives home how versatile and capable our rigs really are. I learned a few things too, so I wanted to say thanks also.
As for the shop doing the engine swap, wow - they're the real deal right there. Those were some really nice guys, generous with their time, knowledge - and the use of their parking lot and even a tool or two. They promised that pictures and video would be forthcoming once the installation is complete.
...but I wouldn't mind getting together again there to see it in person, especially if we do another meet like yesterday.

Got a message on my machine yesterday from Tom, thanking me for the "big wet one" Vendetta planted on him...
You're welcome twin Bro of diff'n Mo...

Sorry, I was too busy wrenchin & forgot I even brought the camera till later in the day. Those pix's are all we got (unless someone took some with their phone).
Woulda been sweet to get some better pix of subject47's homegrown beater VX with the Marlen-stein flavored front bumper & snorkle.
Most of the wrenchin wasn't a photo-op. Nerf bars installed, Seat Sliders installed, fixed 3 windows, HID headlights installed, & rear shocks installed.
BTW, the beef jerky contest was a draw. Vendetta makes some mean exotic flavors (spicey, Jamacan (sweet with a delayed subtle burn), Teriyaki) whilst I tend more towards the traditional smokes. There wasn't much left by the end of the day ... just enough for the return trip(s).

The Tech was fantastic. His attention to detail is unbelievable. The end product will be well worth the investment but keep in mind that this will probably end up being a $50K rig when all is complete.

Glad you guys could make it, and it was a real pleasure to meet you guys. Your all always welcome to the shop anytime. And yes, as long as there is progress worth photographing, I will be sure to post it up online. And thanks for providing some more ideas and information for us to use as well on this and future vehicles.
I came so close to making it down....would have been great to meet everyone and check out the other VX's.
Let's hope everyone decides to have another one here shortly!
Seems like a good location for everyone.

I can take some pics of the bumper and the home made snorkle. As far as the snorkle goes it does fit the homegrown theme for sure.

My son was talking 'bout your snorkle last night. He wants to put one on his Samurai.
