How do I take off those roof caps without braking them? And why are they worth so much? Someone told me they are about $400. Is this true?

Supply and demand, there is no supply so there is high demand. But $400 is too high, you can generally get them for $200-300.

Just rattling yer cage dude.

Sorry chance - never had a rack so I can't help you with any instructions.

Maybe this will help:

Looks like they just snap on. I've heard though that it's easy to crack them with your gorilly fingers.

The caps are held on with 4 small plastic bar shape tabs, 2 on each side of the cover.
The plastic is getting very old and brittle, so be gentle. (I broke one of mine on the first time removing them. :mado:)
You can use a thin knife tip or anything thin enough to get in the crack and pop it off.
Do it from the INNER side so if you scratch it, it won't show.

Each cap is SPECIFIC to the location, so there's 4 different ones, and they're marked on the inside as to position.

a strip of packing tape works like a charm. roll it up like a tube around your finger and stick it on the exterior side of the cap and gently pull back and up. Works like a charm for me every time! No need to try and get a thin tool under the cap and risk chipping it and your car to hell before you can get a good hold. Packing tape is certainly the way to go!!!
