View Full Version : Florida Meet

Please post if you are interested in a Florida meet. First let's find out where everyone lives, then we will find a place that is smack dab in the middle of everyone. We can then argue about when and what type of meet? Meet & Eat, Meet & Wrench, Meet & Wheel(Florida style: some flat sand with no big gators or swamp with big gators and me on high hard ground waiting to tell the authorities where the big gators ate the sunken Vehicrossers).
If you are a snowbird or refugee from South Dakota that's fine too, just let us know when you will be here.
I will start off. I live in Melbourne, about an hour east of Orlando and anytime after Jan 12.

Happy New Year all. Looks like 8 different names listed here as being interested. Is that Enough? Just got my work schedule for the next month. Hoping that a date will be set soon, in case I need to beg for a schedule change. I guess I should hope to get a call that my VX is finished first. It needed a new Radiator and some airconditioning repair. I also am having a new Kenwood Radio installed. According to my mechanic friend it works great with blue tooth phones. Guess I sort of gave away my age with the Eight is Enough play on words.

Rod.. any idea's when your VX will be done?

RodL

Got a call Thursday that it was done. Planned to pick it up early Friday morning but worked late and didn't have the chance. When I called the shop to say I wouldn't be in, the Service manager said good. While there it apparently developed a power steering leak. They will check that out Monday and I will be there Tuesday morning to see what the final damages will be. Wish me luck. I will post Tuesday if I have it or know when it will be done.

So where do you guys think a central location for all of us would be to meet up?

Makocross
01/08/2013, 06:17 AM
It looks like Orlando area would be the most central. Let's stay away from Disney area because of the traffic. We still need to pick what kind of meet we should have. Just finding a restaurant and meeting would be easy or there are wilderness areas we could meet at in central Florida. I would think a Saturday around 11. I am retired so any day of the week is good. Does anyone know of a car themed restaurant or an off road park near Orlando?

I think Daytona Beach for an overnight meet on a weekend.

RodL
01/08/2013, 03:16 PM
Probably some where in the center of the state. A motorcycle group I ride with has a ride every Sunday to a restaurant somewhere in the state. I can check the old routes. A couple that come to mind are Solomons Castle http://www.solomonscastle.org/ Very unique place. Then there is a place at YeeHaw that is very inexpensive. Every one add a couple. Someone organize a poll, we all vote and the top place wins.

I live in Palm Coast....our Classic car museum/body shop/ car show arena is in St.Augustine.
I'm another one that doesn't go in dirt or on the beaches. I don't want that salt and dirt up in the nether regions of my car. 0177 is pavement only

**we do have an off-road park complete with mud bog and sippy holes right here in Flagler county for those inclined to get dirty. Boggin' Bunnell

Lots of folks over by St. Pete...it would almost have to be Lakeland/ Orlando to keep it central to everyone

So alot of suggestions as to where to meet have been tossed around.

I think Orlando would be a fair place to meet,it's almost a fair driving distance for all of us.
I did a quick Mapquest drivetime for everyone...course I'm sure it a rough estimate.

Melbourne, Fl 1hr 16 min
Brooksville, 1hr 28min
clearwater 2hr
St. Petersburg 1hr 51min
Tampa, FL 1hr 27min
land o lakes 1hr 40min
safety harbor 2hr
boynton beach 2hr 53min
Jacksonville 2hr 17min
Ocala 1hr 19min
Palm Coast 1hr 20min
New Smyrna Beach 1hr 5min

What to you guys think?

My trip to Orlando consisted of Turnpike driving only, except for up and down International Drive several times. My little brother stayed at the $180/nite Rosen property and I opted for the $49/nite. They were only about a mile apart. Did an unexpected full price day at Universal Studio's too.. It's an easy drive for me to Orlando, it's the driving around while there that can be a pain sometimes. Hard to get a good picture of where you are. Took my brother to the airport at 5 AM yesterday and the GPS took us on the toll road to the airport but coming back to the hotel kept us on the surface streets. Glad I didn't have to pay more tolls but the stop and go even at 5 AM may have cost more in fuel. My schedule is going to get more busy in the next month. How much lead time can we have. Can someone pick a day in late Feb or early March ? The first weekend in March is out for me, my youngest daughter is turning 16...............

Ok,so finding a location in orlando is not as easy as it sounds.
I'm not to familiar with the area, and the fue places I was able to find are just parking lots >.<
BUT!! I do have one idea.
What about my place? I didn't mention it before because I didn't want to be unfair with drive time.
But I have over half a city block and I can fit over 30 cars. I can supply music, chairs, tables, bathroom, water hose for washing, It's fully shaded by the trees. AND I can supply some food and if you want I can arrange for a food vendor.
It's in historic Downtown Brooksville"you can see the courthouse from my front yard"

It's just a thought and I wouldent mind doing it at all.
Let me know what you guys think.

Im game.. water access for bath after a drive to get the flipping bugs off is great.. lol.. (although with the amount of wax, they slide right off mine anyway)- it's kind of a catch 22 though.. if anybody really south eastern was intending on going, it's a nice drive up the coast & shoot over to the Orlando Area.. then you've got 10 VX'rs parked on your lawn.. lol..
What about Daytona Beach? Maybe there's a place we can detail & wash, and play in the sand..
Truth be told, I love the attention we get when general population tries to figure out what we are.. I can't even imagine more than 2 next to each other.. There's a function on this side of the berg (in St. Petersburg) that happens once a month, called DuPont Registry "Cars & Coffee".. which is a big parking lot, and all the cool cars come out to be seen.. coffee too of course.. I wonder if there's something like that mid state..

Drove to Punta Gorda and back yesterday visiting a friend. There is an automotive museum on one of the roads leading to where he was staying, that had a car show yesterday. I don't know how to find these but have seen many in the past. There is one near me in the evenings in Wellington, FL. Happened by it one night dropping my daughter off at the movies. Gave me something to do while waiting on the show to get over. Gonna google car shows in central florida and see what comes up. Anyone interested in crashing one of those with a few VX's ????

The link above is what I found that seems to show several Car Shows. I clicked on several and you can find out more about when, where and even some had a printable window sign you could use to display your vehicle. Some are further away (from me) than I thought they would be, by the town name. Guess I have heard of the towns but didn't actually know where they were. Below is a list of Central Florida shows until the end of March. There are more listed into June but the frequency seems to be less. Check it out.

I went to Orlando today to find a place to meet. There is a T.G.I. Fridays on International Drive with a large parking lot in back. It is easy to get to. Take I4 to the Sand Lake Rd exit and head east and then turn south on Iternational Drive. The TGIF is on the left at 8955.
So now who can make it at 11:00 am on March 23? Figure we will meet in the parking and scope out each others rides and then have lunch. That will give some flexibility for those of you coming a longer distance. This location should be about a hour from Tampa, Melbourne and Daytona.

Just did a search of T.G.I. Friday's in Orlando. One comes up at 8955 International Drive and another comes up at 10811 International Drive. They probably are not too far apart. Had to reread the directions and then saw the number. Just in case anyone else is a skimmer until you find you missed something.

Yea! We got four VX's so the meet is on. Coastie, sorry you won't be able make it. I was looking forward to meeting you, maybe we can have an off road meet. I would look forward to getting my garage queen dirty.
I don't know how to send a PM to all of the VX's in Florida, maybe someone knows how to, and will let others know about the meet.

Garage queen, lol  . Yeah it sucks. I have my baby daughter with me all day cuz my wife works saturday. And my parents will be out of town. Maybe I can see if I can ask my sis-in-law if she would like to baby watch her for a few hours. But no guarantees. I'll get back with ya guys later this evening with a concrete answer. My parents and brother live just 6 miles from that area, so I'll see if one of them can watch my baby I'll be able to make it with no problem but if not I can't take the drive from New Smyrna Beach to there with a baby for a few hours, it would be a tough one to pull.

I can't make this time. Work all day. I live abou t20 minutes north in Lake Mary. If you guys are out running around I know of some sand pits built for atv's and jeeps that I've driven through before. Might be fun. Sorry! Maybe someone wants to come up and check mine out? It's for sale!

Very nice day for a drive. Started out a little after 7 am this morning and am home right at 7 pm tonight. Drove to Orlando and met 4 other VX owners and was able to see another Silver (Astrial) and two more of the White (Ironman) models. Met some very friendly gentlemen and had a good lunch. Hope to be able to attend the next meeting and maybe encourage a few more of the Florida owners to make the trip. I am simply awful with names so I won't even try to mention the attendees. Looking forward to the next meeting.

Had a great time with you guys yesterday. This was my first meet and first time next to another VX/s in a parking lot. Was fun, we deff. need to make another meet sooner then later. Ocala does sound like a great place for next time. And hopefully more FL VX's or even some other states can join us next time.

It definitely was a great meet. Rod L and I came in from the south east and the rest from the north and west and got to spend hours in traffic. Next time we are going to find a place out in the middle of nowhere like the Ocala National Forest. Strange event of the day: one of our group was passed by an Ironman and figured he would be at the meet. Nope! I guess it was just a random VX drive by. It was interesting to see how diferent each VX was. They were all 1999's with Hcloud13 the most stock and Coastie's the most radical.

Ocala seems to be the agreed upon next destination for the Florida meet, We are hoping sooner rather than later.. Hopefully more people will come and join!

Thanks Mike for putting together, the First one of the series....and to Doug, Rod, Coastie and his Bro! for being there.. [Next time I will bring the VX and the BBQ set!]

Just a heads up RE- warning....ITS A BRUSH GUARD !!!

I drove Moab first year with it on..its fine on easy stuff.
Second year I took it off...cause I was doing "gnarly'er" trails...
...and it can flex a bit if you are doing lots of Bumpity Bump stuff.

Third year onwards... I didnt even take it...I would of DESTROYED IT!

Its NOT meant for bashing into rocks etc...

...but its a master of deflecting skateboarders and cyclists!

PLUS....it looks REALLY good on your ride....

...love the 'match' to the wheels and roof rails.

If Mike [Makocross] and I end up going to Moab.. [We are looking into it] I will take it this year.. I don't think I will be doing a lot of Black Diamond trails.. If you know what I mean.....
I can probably be riding up front and clearing the road of skaters and cyclist tho..!! :bgwb:

No problem... kind'a like we discussed when we talked about you buying it.

Good thing is..it comes on & off very easily....
...so if you get tempted by harder stuff...No problem !

Hope you guys DO make it....

Are you going to lift at all before...or why not bring springs
to Moab and do a STOOP lift!

Got a set of OME's 912 and 4 Rancho 9000XL...[No remote ]
I was going to bring them tomorrow to the Powdercoat man.... [Red would look nice.. don't ya think?]
I can bring it to Moab but don't want to bug anyone.. including You.. :bgwb:
I am thinking if the 912's will be too much lift.... I think the 913 are smaller of the two... and then how much cranking on the front??

Maybe I should bring the setup there...

Hey guys,
so when about is the next meet? I know Ocala was tossed around.

Makocross
04/23/2013, 03:27 PM
I was going to go to the Ocala Nat Forrest and check it out, but just haven't had the time yet. VX man and I are trying to get to Moab so the May weekends during that time would be out for us. I think we should go for a picnic or tailgate event as there are few places to eat. Hcloud13 this next question is for you, would you take your VX on a dirt road? There is a picnic area a couple of miles down a dirt/sand road. Hcloud13's VX is pristine. It is so clean at the Orlando meet he not only cleaned his VX but mine and some of the others. So let's try to find a place compatable with everyone. I haven't been to Juniper Springs state park to check it out but I am sure it is paved and is a possibility. RodL is leaving Florida at the end of may so try to do this before then.

A regular dirt road is fine.
