thought this was pretty cool - i remember a long time ago seeing a different sort of tire that was supposed to be revolutionary that had no sidewalls and was supposed to have replacable treads but i never saw any more about it and always wondered why it never caught on - this is different but still neat:

Itd be really cool to see those on actual vehicles and see how they would do. Im sure they wouldnt pass american "safety standards"...

I can't see the pix that Y'all are posting (stoopid work computers) but several years ago I was working on a project where they were going to use tires like the ones described. They basically seemed like they'd work for slow speed applications but not at road speeds. Unfortunately the program died before we could get into testing with those tires mounted.

Wow very interesting. I snapped a picture of the michelin golf cart running around in the paddock at ALMS race last year with a set of them on it. Pretty cool to see in person but yep I think slow speed only.
