My parts car Trooper came with factory alloy wheels that look pretty good and there are five of them. My thoughts are to clean them up and paint or powdercoat 'em black then through my tires on them. My factory 16"s aren't too bad but one does have about a 1 x 1/4 inch piece missing on the rim lip. And of course there are only four of them. I'm about 80% decided on doing the swap. I don't know if there is a significant weight difference between these rims and I'm just not sure about the look. What do you think?

I personally prefer to stay with an oem option. However that being said.... I don't always stay with what is oem for the model. I have two sets of oem's for the vx... first is a oem 18, second is a set of oem 16x7.5 (oem 94-95 rodeo). I had both sets powdercoated about 4 years ago. The still look great, no damage or scuffs. I had sets of 5 done for the matching spares.
I remember the wheel style from the trooper, never seen them on a vx. They are probably a 16x7 wheel but have the same offset.

Just make a virtual swap first and see what you think. Even a simple picture editing program like Microsoft Paint is sufficient if you have pictures of both the wheel and the vehicle that are taken from the same angle and distance (for proper sizing).

Cutting and pasting the wheel option onto a picture of your vehicle shows you pretty much exactly what your end result will be, eliminating all the guess work (except of course for back-spacing/offset and your preference of changing colors).

Have you considered Plasti-dip in black?
