Took my VX to Eldora Mountain yesterday above Boulder Colorado. We got a lot of snow yesterday and it was a winter wonderland.
Anyway, I was passing through Boulder and was going to make a left turn at an intersection. This intersection has the red light cameras so I am always cautious, perhaps too cautious for the people behind me. I stopped and immediately felt the loud "thock" of being rear ended. I stepped out, fear the worst. Turns out, there was only a thumbnail chip in the plastic to the right of the license plate holder. The Toyota Four Runner was thrashed behind me. Even the hood was crumpled up.
I am thankful for my girlfriend and I being safe after this experience. Best part is we made it to the mountain to ski afterward.
Only casualty was a nick on the cladding and one of the reb knobs broke off. Going to order a new set of four once I find the post.
Just wanted to share my adventure. Love my VX more and more each day. :yesy:
Too bad about the chip...mebbe name it foose...
Glad the story had a mostly happy ending...

That does it. My SuperBumper is now a permanent accessory on the VX.:)
Glad it worked out for you. Hope you at least get the other guy's insurance to pay for a mechanic to inspect for any hidden damage.

Just got a call from her insurance company. At first, I was sort of hostile (I feel bad now) because I thought they were going to pin it on me somehow. Turns out they are going to pay for my repairs. Anyone know where I can find a pristine cladding center rear piece as well as some knobs?

gunny,
Call Dane @ Millerstown Auto Parts. (724) 352-3900
They are located near Pittsburg. Last I heard, the rear end of the Proton was still untouched.
Here's a thread on getting the knobs:

In case any of the newer gang is wondering what a Superbumper is, it's the black thing in the receiver. Can absorb up to 20-25 mph impact w/o any damage to car, and especially helpful to prevent or lessen whiplash.
Plus it's a really handy step.
Yeah it looks kind of stupid, not as nice as the GoRhino style, but it's saved my VX's backside once so far from a tap in the rear.

Very cool. I love those guards on your lights too by the way. Wish I could find some or the time to fab a set up.

Well, it's a really long story, and he scratched the crap out of my cladding on one side (fixed with ShowRoom New dye), but my fab shop can make the exact same guards (bare metal), they even made a few brackets to be ready for any future orders. I think he was talking in the $125 ish range, IIRC.
I have a pair of black ones for a 99-01 Rodeo, made by Manik. This is the model that matches the closest to the VX. It's what Julian911 and wekilled used. They're available if you're interested in them.

If you are looking for the rear center under the door cladding-I have a new one.
Drop me a note.
