Formerly the "VX Only Run"....
It was decided that last year's VX Only Run, in honor of Todd Adams, would be the last and that this year we would start a new tradition called the Newbie Run. The name is a little bit misleading in that anyone can go on the run, not just newbies. We figured that a few "Moab Veterans" would volunteer to take some of the first timers out on a milder trail so that they could see what their cars are capable of and not scare the bejeebers out of them right off the bat.
Lets hear some suggestions for a trail to go on.

I signed up not because I'm a Moab Veteran, but because I like to do a relatively mild trail first to ease myself back into the wheelin' groove. This is the one time of the year that I take the VX offroad and I'm usually pretty skittish on my first trail.
This will be my seventh or eighth year in Moab so I could lead the trail if I need to, but it depends on what trail we decide on.
Fins N Things is always a good standard, but I think Hell's Revenge, despite it's name, is a pretty doable trail. I remember doing 3D, Gemini Bridges, Dome Plateau (I think), Elephant Hill, Fins N Things, Gold Bar Rim (I think), Sevenmile Rim, and Top of the World with Todd for the VX Only Runs in years past.

I Think TOp Of The World Or Dome Plateau Are My Favorite 'newbie' Runs. Gold BaR And Hells Revenge Are Too Much For First Day Out For Newbs. Gemini Is Closed. Fins Is Another Good One, But Costs Money To Get in.
Sorry For The Weird Caps, Dunno What My Phone Is Doing.

:freek: Don't think Top of the World is for newbies any more! :freek: Did you try it last year? Spectacular view, but it's eroded quite a bit and it's about 2 levels more difficult than it was 2 yrs prior. Thank gawd for skid plates, as I scraped the crap out of my steel skids and sliders …plus some areas not covered, including a dent in my diff….
There's difficult shelves and stairs all over the place. …it was just bang bang bang… especially for stock height.
IMHO I vote for Hell's Revenge or Fins & Things….still totally doable for stock, plus many obstacles can be bypassed. Doesn't Fins & Things have a midpoint where we can break off? I think we did that one year.

I'm more than happy to lead / join / tail gun...
...for the Newbie run.
I'm gonna be playing with/getting fully used to the Aussie lockers..
...so perfect for me....and very happy to pass on some Moab
knowledge, as was done for me years back by Todd et al.
Fins is good...the cost negligable relative to the whole deal..
... ..and a multi day pass makes it all worth while.
Having said that..my bet is we decide for sure Monday night.....
..ya know how that usually works on the Stoop!

As Sue said, ToW is pretty rough now. Fun for those of us used to it and with some lift. Gold bar hasnt been a newbie trail for a few years, that water fall rock has gotten pretty washed out. I got stuck on it last time (probably should have stacked rocks first). Fins is good for a newbie run, I know Todd usually just did the first section with new people. The whole thing makes for a long day with lots of vehicles or newbies unless there are only a few. 7 mile and dome plateau are good, but can be long. Hells Revenge is doable but the exit is getting pretty torn up. I got hung up last year where the ford ranger going the wrong way got high centered.
