After two polls, and some discussions, this year will be 17-20OCT. In order to facilitate planning for families, we will try and lock it to the weekend before halloween weekend each year. Should be doable, allows families to still participate in local halloween events and still late enough in they year that it should be a bit cooler at night.

Maybe I can sweet talk Eli into either setting up the campground graphic or sending it to me so I can mod as needed:) See complete stolen product below

Thursday, October 17th ~ Sunday, October 2oth.
(with the Main Days being Friday and Saturday)

As always, this IS NOT exclusively an Isuzu event…
We welcome ALL 4-wheel-drive fanatics, no matter what brand of vehicle you happen to drive...
(as long as you can behave yourself, and know how to play well with others! :P )

THINGS TO BRING:
You must have a trail pass, an annual pass is $30 or you can $5 per day, trail passes can be obtained at the Outpost.
It can get cold at night, some years, water bottles are frozen in the morning, some years, its 90 degrees, we will see when the time comes.
Bring spare parts, I personally carry:
Alternator, CV joints, driveshaft, hubs, brake lines, 1 bottle of every fluid, fire extinguisher (needed it last year on Dutch John, it saved a truck from burning to the ground), fuel pump, belts, nuts and bolts, tape, JB weld, and of course enough tools/grinder/welder and so on to fix just about anything.

If anyone is interested in this trip, (nudge to Ash,Tom, Billy and any others in my neck of the woods), I am heading down there on Tuesday, 15Oct. We like to take a day and go fishing, chill at the campsite, leisure wheeling and hanging out. We may go horseback riding or canoeing this trip as well. We leave at 7am on Tue, come back and home by 2 or 3pm on sun. We can convoy down there, a few VXes, a trooper RS and a Montero would be a cool convoy.

Since I'm on his side of the country now, I'm hoping to be able to make it this year.

Marlin

Let me know, I took SSsiggy and his brother on street stock VXs last trip, they had a blast!
We can convoy together if you can get the time off.

HMMMM ... 5+ hours .... may be doable. I'm taking a week off in Sep so it may be difficult to take time off in Oct too (we'll see).

I'll have to start working on Wifey to convince her that it'll be fun.

Wish the campground had full hookup.

This may actually be my best opportunity to prove to all those Moab-ites that BZBZZZ does actually get dirty.

(that reminds me, Boy had to unstuck a Ford the other day & he coated the interior with mud ... better check to see if he ever cleaned it up).

Bren said that she'll try to get the time off so that we can make it. WOOOHOOO!!!

I'll try to get campsite reservation later today.

Let me know what site and dates, I will update the thread, the mater thread is on the planet, I will have to remember to bounce it back here every once inawhile.

Marlin,

I have #15 reserved for 17-19 Oct.

Marlin

Kind of far away from the group, but it will do. We generally try to reserve the 30s and high 20s sites:) Shoot me a PM if you need any info when the time comes. We are heading down there on Tuesday so we can do some fishing and hopefully shooting.

Yah, I noticed. It looked like the sites that could accomodate a 32' RV were kinda clumped together away from where Y'all are.

I can change the reservation though if you can recommend a site # that's better.

I'll be there with my new toy Zuul-- my 99 Amigo. My wife will be bringing her VX-- again street stock. Don't know yet what my brother's bringing-- maybe his new toy a '90 Trooper LS. I do know his daughter Vixon is bringing her VX.

We normally try and get most of the sites on the upper loop of the campground

OK, now for the stupidest question: How do you pronounce Uwharrie?

Marlin

You are eee, with a w sound before the are

You will see stickers in the outpost that say "URE". Fairly popular, as with all the tshirts, hats etc.

I assume that this is still a go ... even if all from Planet drop out?

Marlin
08/13/2013, 04:26 PM
Yes, some always drop out, but we will have several trucks there.

Cool. My Jeeper brother from Missississsisssippi may show up as well.

Anyone from FL coming up for this?

Marlin
09/20/2013, 07:05 AM
Not that I know of, we have a guy with an amigo that used to make the trip from ocala, but he is a park ranger now and can't get the time off.
Looks like I am bringing some more folks, got an Xterra coming as well.

Sweet! Looking forward to this trip. Finished welding up and painting the toolbox mount on my trailer yesterday. Gonna try and mount the brush guard as a permanent bumper on the trooper tomorrow, weather permitting.

Hmm... There's like a dozen of Vx owners in the CFL area alone, according to Member Map, but no one is coming up? That sux. I've been wanting to make it to one of our events for quite some time but never works out.

Vx is grounded right now if I can get it ready in time I'll come up..

Maybe Florida meet sometime soon... Weather is getting nice.

Marlin

Would be awesome if you can make it, let me know, if you need any info, I can help you out. I also have a ton of room at the campsite if you need somewhere to tent it up.

Marlin

Due to politician ineptitude, the camp grounds are currently closed. The trails are open, using contingency funds and the fact they are mostly self sustaining with trail fees. Having closed the lodging area keeps most of the visiting riff raff out of the park.
I am still waiting to pull the trigger on not going, will have to see what happens next week.
I guess the time off will allow me to work on the bumpers for both trucks...lol. Silver lining kind of guy right here:0

tom4bren
10/03/2013, 03:15 PM
Yah,

I'm almost to the point on pulling that trigger (not going).

I'm working through tomorrow but don't know about after that. We're supposed to find that out tomorrow. If I'm not working then all playful spending will have to be curtailed.

wish i could go. but its on the other side of the world for me. have fun and drink one on me

Marlin

Will do, I don't have any shine left from the spring meet:( Still waiting to see if the campground is gonna be open. I can go primitive in the woods, but the kids and wife would not have as much fun and certainly not for 6 days that we originally planned. Hard to justify the several hundred bucks in fuel for a 2 day trip:(

tom4bren
10/10/2013, 09:54 AM
I don't see the campground re-opening in time. Can we start looking for a time in the spring to re-schedule?

Marlin
10/10/2013, 11:00 AM
We will argue the spring meet sometime after Christmas:) I am going down there anyway, but not till Friday, and without the wife and kids. Have a montero and an xterra going, gonna tow the trailer, just "rough" it on the trails. Better than nothing. Wonder how long before I get my refund?

Marlin
10/13/2013, 12:27 PM
Firmed up plans today. We are heading down early friday morning. Gonna stay at Art Lilly. Glad I have some solar capability so I can have lights at night.
Vault toilet is open at least. Hope I can find a spot to park the trailer, I imagine it will be pretty busy out there.

tom4bren
10/14/2013, 07:48 AM
Just can't make that as a day trip & won't 'camp' in Walmart parking lot. We've made other arrangements for this weekend. Looking forward to the next attempt at a get together.

Marlin
10/15/2013, 08:09 AM
I understand, I was packing this morning, got the trailer hooked up for the first time since I painted it. Once the sun comes out, I will snap some pics and post on my trailer thread. All I have to say, it is bad ***, can't wait until I get the new axle and the big tires on the trailer, gonna look like a tank.

tom4bren
10/15/2013, 01:58 PM
Mebbe we can plan for a 'show-n-shine' in Williamsburg before the weather gets too cold.

Marlin
10/15/2013, 06:44 PM
Sounds doable to me. Soccer season ends in a few weeks, so I will be free on most weekends.

Marlin
10/17/2013, 06:31 AM
I am heading out in a few hours, just waiting on a package from the Fedex guy. USDA shows the campground as open again, but the reservation site is still down. For all you non-essential government workers, get back to work!!

tom4bren
10/17/2013, 06:39 AM
I'll be checking the reservations website throughout the day ... need to cancel my reservations so that I don't get charged.

Marlin
10/17/2013, 06:46 AM
They called me on Tuesday, refunds will be processed after the last day of your reservations. I have to figure out how to get my partial refund, site 27 is a a double site, so I should get back enough to cover most of my gas down there.:) Glad I payed months ago so they could earn interest on my reservation:(

tom4bren
10/17/2013, 10:08 AM
Sounds like I'm getting a full refund (not being charged the $10 cancellation fee).

EDIT:

Yup, full refund since cancellation was due to Gov't shutdown.
