It's probably a dumb question but according to Wiki a certain number were produced for export to the USA for some reason I thought they only made 1800 but I see that was for the JDM/Grey Import market. So were in excess of 5000 imported?

IIRC it was more like 3900 from 1999 through 2001.

Any many suggest there are only about 1400 on the road now. Between wrecks, cash for clunkers, parting out, etc, the numbers are low.

4153, but I am sure there are far fewer on the roads now. As Gary said, many VXes have been lost due to accidents.

I've been tracking Foxfire VINs for awhile now and there are way more out there than you'd think, something like 80% or better IIRC.

Ashley, can you confirm that these vehicles are still roadworthy or are they just still registered due to people not "junking" the titles? (Send your retired title to the state for deregistration.) I don't know what the laws are elsewhere but here in Minnesota we are "supposed" to send in our titles for any junked vehicle but few people do unless there is a cash transaction that dictates transfer...:_confused

I think this is reasonable to assume. As a "collectors" vehicle, more people would strive to keep them running. Rare cars are rarely "thrown" away.
I'm surprised how many I see in an area such as Kansas City. I've probably seen nearly 10 of them in the past two years. And, this isn't a high-concentration area.

I'm kinda thinkin' the vast majority of peeps that own 'em have no idea of their value, hence the amount turned in for CFC...

We gotsa turn in title to junkyard here in VA & take receipt to DMV to clear it out of the system. If you don't, you'll get a surprise Personal Property bill from the county in 6 months or so for a vehicle that doesn't exist anymore (ask me how I know).
Twice in my life now, I've had to prove that I DON'T own a certain vehicle (one sold & one junked). Think about it: it's easy to prove that you do own a vehicle ... but how the heck do you prove that you don't own it.

True enough. Even if not running or junked they are still here. As an interesting side bar, six more were supposed to come but were lost at sea due to a ship wreck.

I can think of at least 3 that came into the US but were subsequently exported - Vehigaz and Ricksters both went to Russia and the AutoPro V8 Ebony went somewhere in the Middle East - - and I think a few more were exported to Russia. Small numbers yes, but not all 4,153 are still here.

I get...
5958 vehicles being produced between 1997 and 2001.
1805 were produced for the domestic Japanese market,
and the remaining 4,153 sold in the United States.
...whenever I have searched.
The above I got from Wiki, and it has a complete breakdown of US and JDM colors/numbers.
