What the thing on the power steering pump with the wire coming out of it is?
The wire broke off of mine

IIRC, it's connected to a speed sensor that feeds into the Throttle Position Sensor (or something like that). I'll see if I can find the thread that talks about it.

The purpose of such sensors to tell ECU (computer) that there is load on the engine from the PS pump. ECU bumps up the idle to prevent the engine from stalling (that is why they saw all that idle surging in the other thread).

You should be able to repair the wire without replacing the switch. But if you are not stalling the engine and not getting any CE codes, I would just keep driving it ;). I have seen many cars work fine with this feature unplugged and OBD2 doesn't seem to care.

Eureka!! I broke that wire when I did the power steering pump swap a few months ago, and have noticed some surging at idle and TPS doesn't show up on the scangage anymore! Mystery solved, no stalling, no check engine light= no worries!

When I had my engine replaced the guys at the shop noticed this same wire was broken and was probably broken for a long time due to the corrosion on it. I never noticed anything with the old engine when turning at lower speeds. Never had a CEL and the engine never stumbled. When the shop replaced the engine the speed sensor was on back order so for the first month, or so, with the new engine I didn't have the sensor and, again, didn't notice anything. The shop installed the sensor once it came in from Isuzu (and yes, it wasn't cheap) and I really didn't notice any difference with it installed.:_confused
