Stock Rims: Powder Coating and Composition?

Referring to the OEM 18-Inch Chrome wheels on the '00-'01 VX:
1) From what I can find, they are cast aluminum, right?
2) Regarding Powder Coating these rims:
I have read that cast aluminum should not be subjected to too high of a temperature.....but can they hold up okay to the temps associated with Powder Coating?
Anyone here have first-hand experience with Powder Coating the OEM Chrome Rims?

I have two set of oem wheels that I have had powder coated.

The first set I did was oem 16's from a rodeo.
The other set I did was the oem 18's from a '02 Rodeo ( Isuzu offered the left over vx 18's as an option in '02)

You can look at my pics and see the wheels. I did these about 6 to 8 years ago. 50k on them and they still look great, no problems at all.
the plastic center caps I had to spray with rattle can bed liner product to match.

Were the 18's originally chromed and if yes did the shop that done the work have any problems stripping the chrome? Thanks.

plasti dip them they look awesome and you can take it off later if you want to go back to chrome - looks just like powdercoat and its about 1/10th of the price and you can do it yourself - i got the cans for mine now just havent had the time yet

The shop did a light sandblasting of the oem chrome finish. A couple of the wheels were pealing too. I think the cost was around $35 ea total. Set of 5 done cost around 200, several years ago, might be more now.
I never tried the plasi dip method, don't know if it was available when I had these done. They still look perfect after over 50k on them.

i will add that powdercoating if done properly would be much more durable than plasti dipping and im sure last much longer - just not reversible

Then, go speak to the Manager/Owner of a reputable powder-coating shop in your area for various color scheme combinations. A talented powder-coating technician can literally create works of art on automotive wheels.

My rims were Plasti Dipped by the previous owner, and they were not holding up very well.
I dropped them off for Powder Coating today.....will see how it goes, and will post update.
