Thanks! As mentioned before, my daughter's had an accident while driving the Jeep about six months ago...nothing major, but needed to replace the bumpers and do some work in the back (trunk did not close). I guess that as long as a Salvage title does not exist, this kind of accidents go unreported.

CARFAX's report, as stated on their disclaimer, will just tell if the vehicle "had no severe accidents or other total loss events reported to CARFAX from a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV):.

This is good. However, my suggestion is to always have your car checked by a trusted mechanic before buying it. It's worth every penny. Years ago, I was about to buy a BMW 325, and the dealership sworn that the vehicle had not been involved in any accident.
I took it to my mechanic, and he immediately told me that the front of the car was damaged and repaired at some time. He could tell because of the screws used to repair it (apparently the BMW use hexagonal screws, and not the regular ones).

Another good suggestion is to ask the appropriate dealership for a print out of the maintenance history on the car. I did it when I bought my wife's VX and was able to see all the problems (under warranty) and maintenance that the previous owner had with the car (sound system replaced, aftermarket tint windows, misalignment, etc.).
