Hey guys we are crossing America in my 99 Astral VX on the 20th of September. We are taking two-three weeks to do the drive from Anchorage Alaska to Phoenix AZ via the Ak 1, PCH, San Diego and Las Vegas camping the whole way in all of the National Parks and crashing at friends houses. If you have somewhere to shower at all along the West Coast we'd be very excited and appreciative.

Follow us on Facebook you'll love it!

Tell all of your friends and come see us in your area if you want to see the first VX Overland Journey(unverified) :)

I saw you were crossing America, and now I realize, although, technically you are, from North to South, but now what I was thinking:) If you ever make it out East, I am in Norfolk, VA, not too far from DC. I have extra room you could crash at if needed. Plus, I have enough parts to probably fix about anything on your rig:) Good luck, will be following your FB page!

Make sure your timing belt is up to date (replaced at 100K). IAC valve is fresh. Clean your MAF and avoid an oiled K&N type air filter.
Add some Marvel Mystery Oil to keep oil burning in check.
Make sure your EGR valve is working and the tube is clean.
Otherwise, you should be okay, and by the way bon voyage (and...safe home. God's speed.)

Timing belt is good only 60K on the clock, and I carry a spare
No oil burning thus far
EGR is good
PCV's like to get clogged for some reason (every 500-700 miles) so I carry 5 spare
MAF is cleaned, K&N is clean and ready have a spare under the boot

be careful, make sure the oil returns to the pan during the drive or else youll make it to seattle and have to scrap it.

The 6ve1 engine doesn't burn oil so much as sucks it through the plenum. You stop the suction effect by keeping the oil return ports in the pistons clear, thus Marvel Mystery to the rescue. Otherwise, remove and physically clean the pistons. Also, know that while a K&N gives more power/economy it is oiled and that oil can potenially clog the MAF. Good luck.

Got to meet up with Chase for a mini-mini meet this past Sunday.
I was on my way to Los Angeles and was passing within a couple miles of him in Arizona.

His rig looks really kool! Really great guy too!
We'll definitely meet up again before he leaves AZ in the Spring :yeso:
