Hi all,
I've had a heavy interest in the VX and it prompted me to sign up to this forum a couple of years back. Kinda lost my way and bought another truck instead. Now, my wife has seen these things and thought they were cute...LOL
But now I'm at a lost when it comes to pricing. I base the car prices on the high end book value (KBB) to low end (Edmunds and NADA). Average them out and find out the TMV of the cars. They're also based on above average condition, never new and never fair...
I've been noticing that the asking price for the VX are always waaaay above these prices.
My question is, am I doing the right calculation based on the rarity on the VX?
For example, a pearl white in Kingman, AZ is the one my wife saw and they want $8500, but based on my calculations it should be at $5960. Its got 101k miles and its a 13yr old car.
Found another in Chicago. They want $11,500 and TMV is $7300
I'd pay extra for the intangibles but not too much.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

blue book is out the window on a vehicle like this - for the most part if you are careful you get what you pay for and not less - i sold mine recently (2000 great condition with 118k miles) for $7200 - personally i think that was right smack dab in the "fair" price category - and kept up correctly i dont see the value dropping much - every year there are less and less of them

So basically the selling point is that it can be a potential collectible piece. Man, it will be a hard sell to my wife even though she likes it. I want her to have this cause the trans on her 2008 rav4 is already going out with 65k on it. An f'n toyota! I told her that older cars were built like tanks not like the toys these days. Also, I'd have extra to add a couple of touches on the VX as carmax is giving us a nice appraisal on the rav4

Make sure you study up and read the forums, the VX has its quirks and issues. as long as you know about them and are ok with them, then go for it. if not you might get one for a toy not as a daily driver.
IMO they are worth the hassle, and i love mine. And it is my DD

Yeah been reading up on common quirks on these and they're the same as my mitsubishi trucks (02 Montero Sport and 05 Montero). Its gonna be the wife's so it'll be babied.
My brother, who owns a Rover Evoque, thought these cars just came out and loves the look. He asked me when Isuzu came out with a new line. I said its a man's version of the Evoque. lol

That particular pearl white VX is ONE-OF-A-KIND (http://www.vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?postid=295792). If you need an argument to buy one, this one is guaranteed to appreciate in value, provided you don't paint it pink!.

Damn right :)
Coming from a RAV4 to the VX, just so you know, you'll be moving to a 3.5 V6 w/a 22.5 gallon tank, and gas mileage is kinda "meh". The only way I was able to hit consistent 300+ mpt (miles per tank) was to swap in a 5MT.
I recently sold a 2001 Kaiser Silver w/98k for $6800, and it was very nice condition.

So the price on the Kingman AZ pearl white is in the ballpark, unfortunately I cant sell the mileage to the boss. She does not want a car with more mileage than her rav4 (65k)....My Montero Sport has 147k and the Montero 62k I'm always messing with them. Drives like a champ. I do the general maintenance, timing belts, and plugs on both my Mitsu. But she doesn't care hahahaha

Original owner was a forum member...he has the certification letter from Isuzu about this unique vehicle...last one made...the only Pearl White made...the only white non-Ironman made...:):)

I'm prolly going there Friday just to look. But the look and the mileage is all she cares about. Which brings up some more questions...
Will the insurance company take into consideration that this is certified one of a kind?
Also, from what you've heard from others on the forum whose been in accidents or car were stolen, how did the insurance deal with the loss?
I take it a majority on here have full coverage on it?

Did some research and wow, this Pearl White VX was like a myth. Highly valuable in the Isuzu community and might even be museum worthy.

Definitely true, so you probably want to consider both your wife's concerns and whether you want such a rarity to be a daily driver. Sure this VX will continue to hold and even increase in value, but putting a lot of mileage on it will make it hard to stay in the semi-pristine state it deserves, not to mention expose it to a higher risk of accidents.
Just a thought.
