This is a pretty inexpensive way to fix the broken spare tire cover knobs.
It ended up costing $17.00.

Remove the tire cover.
Remove the four square plastic nuts.
Place a bolt with a nut and washer through the square nut and then place another washer and nut on the bolt.
The distance of how far the thread goes out is adjustable.
Then clip the square nuts back into place.
Replace the cover and screw down with new knobs.
It is that simple

Awesome, looks like you went to Lowe's. I will be going there or Fastenal to pickup hardware for this.

you made your reflectors actually a functioning turn signal I like... I myself would of probably made them extra reverse lights for when you're in the sticks. And you need extra light for your backup camera.

Here's a pdf copy of his How2 in case you want to add it to your archive (it'll be on future copies of the Maintenance Stuff DVD. Pdf of the wooden dowel fix is attached too.

Thanks for this, did it last night. First time I have had the cover on since I owned her. Was tired of my tools getting stuck in the door.

Sorry to resurrect an old Post, but the pictures are not working and I don't see the PDF on post 10. Does anyone have this information available still? I'm down to only one retainer.
