Can someone explain to me the difference between these two cv assemblies?
This one sells for 48$ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DCNQWGS/ref=dra_a_rv_ff_fx_it_P2000_1000?tag=dradisplay-20&ascsubtag=4a251a2ef9bbf4ccc35f97aba2c9cbda&dra_hfr=1&dra_ohs=0-0
This one for 66$ http://www.amazon.com/SurTrack-IZ-8010-CV-Axle-Shaft/dp/B00DCNQTJ8
I can see the extra shaft, but do I need this to repair my c/v if its clicking? Or can I simply order the cheaper for both sides?

I also see this shaft for the other side. http://www.amazon.com/SurTrack-IZ-8011-CV-Axle-Shaft/dp/B00DCNQWYK

If you are getting 'clicking'....
.....simply changing the outer 1/2 shaft on both sides SHOULD fix the issue.
As long as your Green Cups are not overly worn.

The SurTrack IZ-8021 is what you want for both sides.

Its fits both sides..from Green Cup outwards.

Hey Jo what do you think of the Empire 80-3619

I've never tried them...

...of those who have, many didn't like them.

That's why I sourced an alternative...and came up with the Surtrack.

Tolerances/balls sizes etc not to OEM spec in the EMPI

The Surtrack are basically OEM spec

I recently replaced my front half shafts with the surtracks. You can save yourself a few hours on each side by unbolting the lower ball joint. This will give you the clearance to remove the ball race and cage (which is held in by circlip!) good luck!

with the caveat that it is not good for serious off-roading, right Jo

The EMPIs are terrible... made from pencil lead or something similar.

Yup..indeed:thumbup:

I blew the end off one :_brickwal

Having said that, it was my heavy skinny peddle foot, propelling a 35 inch rolling mass of Nitto Mud Grappler...

.... right into a solid berm of hard packed sand, head on!

Wheel/tire stopped in an instant... spline end..Not So Much :eek:

In fairness though, It had already survived Kane Creek, and Steel bender...

But yea, you are 100% right.... the caveat is justified..
...but for most, they will be just fine... IMO!

Cool...

I remember when we chatted on the phone last year that crazy
off roading wasn't the deal for you.

The Surtrack will work great IMO :thumbup:

~~~~~~
Now about Hawaii... please tell me you'll be on Maui!!
I'm looking for a VX to photograph there ... around August 4-7th !!
Cheers
Can you take out your existing half shaft and have it rebuilt? If so where?
It wasn't making noise but the boot was ripped and it was full of crap when I bought my VX.
Yes there are places that do that. In the Midwest we have A-1 driveshaft not sure what you got in Cali..
With that said I'll look around, not sure what they have out here neither.... I'm more of an American Muscle Car guy so all of this CV stuff is new. Thanks djvx
Depending on how long the boot was bust...
...and what kind of crud was in there, it may not need rebuilding IMO.
I've worked on several VX's that have driven for a while with busted boots...
...and the grease was mostly gone, with what was left being ALL kinds of dirty.
A real good clean out..check the balls and races for uneven wear/dings etc...
..and ya might just be OK.
Jo, Im not sure you would want to take pics of my VX, its rough compared to most.
Got my CVs ordered and my master rebuild kit for my transmission. Ive got all my tools packed into my van and its ready to ship over to the BI. Once we get there and set up Ill start putting in work on the VX. Get her back in proper shape then throw some big *** tires under her. After pricing and shipping tires Ill just go down to Costco in Kona and get some rubber there. You pay more in shipping than you can save.
Thanks for all the help guys, your knowledge is gold.
