View Full Version : Tie Rod Broke!

When taking my VX in for an alignment, I was told that the inner driver's side tie rod end was frozen (i.e. corroded) and couldn't be adjusted. I took the VX back home and removed the entire tie rod to work on it. After heating, PB blasting, wrenching, and repeating I could only get it to crack and rotate about a quarter turn. So, I took it to a shop thinking they would have a stronger vise and hotter torch. Got a call yesterday that the rod broke off in the tie rod end! Must have been some serious corrosion that weakened that solid metal rod up inside the tie-rod end.

Anyhow, now I'm trying to find what I can't get from the local parts store, which is the tie rod itself (#1 in the pic below). Any suggestions? Isuzu OEM parts only sells the assembly that includes both tie rod ends (which I don't need because I already had new ones).

- My tie rods broke and I found no one makes them any more even Isuzu. This company makes them and they are heavy duty but the down side is the price $275.00 They definitely rick and I have had no problems with them since installation.

I saw these the other day on ebay. Not sure if these are the same ones as independent4x. But, it does look alot beefier than oem. And definitely a more palatable price! Anyone else have these yet?

I'm only seeing tie-rod ends on Rockauto, but that's usually the 1st place I'd try. I also check ebay in a pinch.

I'll go dig around. The system on my VX is identical to what was on my Frontier, Amigo in the US. I made up a system for using the rod from a Ford Light truck. Same L/H + R/H thread, just a lot shorter, meaning sturdier. The Ford part is dirt cheap.

I'll post as soon as I get hold of it.

I tried to post the pics of the assembly, but the photos disappeared into where-ever. Don't know where to find them.

The Ford Part number on the little box is UH74 32365 A.
