Hi all! So I did a search as best I could, did not find anything so here goes. Background: I have an 01 VX, Nitto Grappler tires...so more rubber there than the stock Bridgestone, and had the ABS module rebuilt professionally to rid the ABS code and light.
Problem: Occasionally, when driving moderate speed, and coming to a stop with foot on brake pedal, close to stopping the VX will suddenly slowly coast with no braking happening, like almost as if the ABS is kicking in but does not do that shuttering thing, then come to an abnormal stop, the engine suddenly revs high rpm, still in drive. It's weird, but it does not stop as a vehicle would normally do, and happens randomly, more so if I am trying to brake quickly say so that I don't hit something in front of me...but not going fast at all. Anyone experience this or have insight why it happening? Please??

This is going to sound ridiculous, but make sure that you aren't pressing both the brake pedal and the gas pedal at the same time. The two pedals are very close together in our VX's and sometimes, like in a panic stop, you can end up hitting both pedals at once.

This has actually happened to quite a few people here including myself.

Do you have any occasional problems with high idle RPM in neutral or park??
Could be a vacuum leak or inlet manifold leak causing the engine to rev harder after you take your foot off the gas.
You then have an engine vs brakes thing happening as you try and stop.

Yeah, pedals are stupidly close together. Even worse when you have pedal covers.

Yes, the pedals thing.... I had a tech years ago drive mine through a cinder block wall due to this. It was not a good day for anyone.

Always be mindful of that. Sole reason I will not let anyone other than me drive it. Total liability. :(

makes me wonder if the brake pedal arm could be reshaped to add another inch or 2 of clearance between it and the gas...
